Unlike the Highwoods proposal, he’s shifted the orientation of the baseball stadium and added removable bleachers behind the outfield. This would accommodate an overlapping regulation football and soccer field, and, who knows, maybe a seasonal ice rink, in the same facility allowing for year round use, he says.

“Baseball does not necessarily agree with the heritage of the area,” Williams says, “but high-school football does.”

I like the idea of having a facility in the bottom that is dormant 2/3rds of the year. Not sure how many fans that would accommodate but it also adds another potential venue if VCU were to field a football team.

Either way, I like where he's going with this proposal...

I would agree that this will give VCU another possible venue. I am a big believer in centrally located venues. I think a sports venue would compliment the shockoe bottom and tie a lot of pieces together...Even if it is for a family event you can take your family to a resturant after or before the game and those who want to go to the bars can go after the game making it a complete evening or afternoon out. Richmond needs to take a chance and think outside the box.We are sometimes too conservative in our positions and it leads to nonthing getting done.

I really believe the Richmond City Council, Highlands, and anyone else interested in developing a sports complex in the bottom should visit Bricktown in Oklahoma City. It's a great example of what the bottom could be.

This looks impressive....this is what I mean when I say we need to step out to the conservative box....some people in Richmond want everything to say the same....but one thing that history has taught us is that change is inevitable....I would love to see something on this level in Richmond.....Thanks xjohnx :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

Let me say I am definately for sports in the bottom.....that said, unless VCU steps up to help pay for it (for Baseball & Football), I don't see it happening. Financing anything of scale will be very difficult for the next 9 to 24 months. Richmond may have missed the window of opportunity.
