OT: Grant/Bama commercial

we now have an OT forum since he no longer is part of VCU basketball

Is it in bad taste to hope he fails?

I really like Coach Grant. Thought he was a great guy, I suppose I still think he is. But it still hurts to see him sayin "Roll Tide!" and joking it up with the 'Bama people. I can't help but hope some of the Coaches who leave for the big bucks and the BCS...see that the grass ain't always greener.

I don't know...

No, it is a great commercial. He rehearsed the exact same lines at the press conference at VCU 3 years ago. Practice makes perfect.

Other than artful lighthing, I thought it was sort of boring. What exactly am I supposed to get from that commercial? Grant says he will work hard?

In the SEC I think some of Grant's "faults" will be revealed. He was not a great in-game coach (witness that bad high-screen play call at the end versus UCLA), but it was the higher caliber players, his motivational ability and the style of play that won games for him in the CAA - - sort of his "program management" abilities. Even there, does anyone really see AG dominating Donovan or Calipari in regard to recruiting, program management or in-game calls? Whole different level for him now and Calipari will win a Nat'l Title within 3 years at Kentucky - - book it. Grant will do well I think, but his first season at Bama will most likely be 19-12ish, with an NIT bid.

I agree completely on Calipari, he's an outstanding coach who will do wonders in bringing back the Kentucky brand. I believe Grant, if he can recruit some good players for next season, will probably break the 20 win mark just because of teams like Vanderbilt, Georgia and USF, but I'm not going to speculate on which post-season tournament he may play in. Either way I wish him success, I'd hate to see his departure as a wasted opportunity. Not to mention, having a coach leave here and do well at a high level would be good for us (in some ways, not so much in others.)

When all else failed he had Maynor. Maynor would take the game on his back, which is why it was indeed a mistake to call that high screen in the UCLA game

all he did was walk down the stairs and sit down.

the audio was taken from the UA press conf.

a lot of hard work went into that AG.

its almost like having a bad break up with a girlfriend and not talking to her for a month and then seeing her a party with another guy. ok not quite to that level of course...but seriously this commercial made me really uneasy.

Where is my intro to Shaka Smart commercial with him walking down the steps of Siegel to the center and he stands on the Ram logo looking around the place and says this.

"I am finally home.."

Introducing Shaka Smart....vcuathletics.com.

Now that's a commercial!!!

On a side note, nothing against whoever is in charge of a lot of the official media and ads for VCU athletics, but we should step our game up. Top level programs in art, design, and especially VCU BrandCenter.

I'd like to see this quality of work for VCU.
