i dont know what he is giving away down there in Memphis but he might just have the number 1 recruiting class in the country now since Kendrick changed his mind from a spring signing to being added to recruits memphis already had in Will Barton, Joe Jackson, Tsfack, Chris Crawford and Barton's brother. impressive class.

I'm happy Memphis is still going strong after the screw job Calipari pulled up on them. We need the strong programs from non-BCS programs to keep it up. Shufan sure was right about Pastner wasn't he? Looks like a head coaching stud at least when it comes to recruiting.

well you could argue in some respects the reason Pastner is having such a great class is precisely because of the screw job Cal did on them because there are plenty of spots and plenty of PT at a program that has shown if you go and win the NBA will come calling, so as bad as the screw job Cal pulled on them in the end it might actually help Pastner to keep that program really strong.

I wouldn't say that. They lost Xavier Henry because of Cal leaving and he just dropped 27 on Hofstra and is almost certainly a one-and-done. Most top recruits came to Memphis because of Cal, not the school. You would naturally think that they would go to the traditional powers after Cal left. It's a credit to Pastner that he was able to sell Memphis with no past head coaching experience and a lot of uncertainty after their Final Four was vacated. The Tigers will be going strong for years to come with this class.

P.S. Agreed. This shouldn't be here.

Memphis was strong before Calipari no reason it wont continue

I think they should be fine. A lil drop off in recruiting but Pastner will do fine, and the tradition at Memphis is hard to ignore.

No dip in recruiting with Jelan Kendrick, Will Barton, and Joe Jackson he already has a big-time (probably top 5 nationally) class this year. There's been no dropoff in the level of recruit Memphis is pursuing and getting. It's very impressive.

That said, all these young guys end up leaving after awhile anyway. Whether it's Capel, Grant, Smart, Pastner or any other young coach, they'll leave after a couple of seasons here. Pastner was lucky to get a destination job as his first gig and could parlay it into a very elite coaching position in a decade or so if he continues to be successful at Memphis.

I was in Memphis for a job interview recently and asked several people if they were Memphis fans...none were and the limo service driver even said they were "trashy" and couldn't win without cheating (and that both of their final 4 runs were invalidated later). I am just wondering if anyone else knows whether the community there is behind this team. I was surprised by the vehement reactions I got when I mentioned them in Memphis! Everyone I ran into wearing sports apparel either had Tennessee Titans, UT or Middle Tennessee garb. Didn't seem like a great situation from a city/fan point of view, but I am basing it on a few interactions.

Memphis had a bad rep long before Calapari was in town

Yeah that Memphis had a coach that went to fed. prison for tax evasion. I smiled re: the Blue Raiders gear comment Rambunctious.

looks like Tarik Black is going to Memphis as well. definitely number 1 class in the country.

When did Xavier Henry decide to leave Memphis and go to Kansas. I have no memory of this. I guess it happened when Calapari went to UK.

Henry was committed to Memphis and decommitted after Calipari left.

Pastner is unreal. He just reeled in the consensus #1 recruiting class in the country in his first year as a head coach.
