In homage to Phillip Morris and Richmond playing such a huge part in the tobacco industry I wish they had considered the name Richmond Nicotines. On promotion night at the park we could paint the handle of our light tan bats a darker shade and paint the end of the bat bright orange (like a lit cigarette). We could hand out those little gum cigarettes to kids and entire boxes of real smokes to adults. Our mascot could even have a real flame at the top of this suit. I am not a smoker and yes this is a joke (just like all the other names we are voting on).
On a serious note...Hambones would make more sense if it was Virginia Hambones. Richmond is not known for ham production - - I think that's more of a Smithfield VA thing.

Let's move the team to Smithfield, VA and call them the Smithfield Hambones. In fact, let's move the City Council to Smithfield (including Wilder); then we could bring back the Richmond Braves.

It's not just Richmond. Look at it this way, if this country didn't have the history that it has these areas of sensitivity wouldn't even exist. Blame the offender not the offended.

I always thought Hambones was ridiculous even without the racial element. I think Rock Hoppers is by far the best of the options offered (though none of them seemed great to me).
