Guys, if you caught my tweets you are by now aware of how ridiculous I thought Blake Griffin winning the dunk contest was.

Thoughts?

Personally I thought DeRozen looked the best out there but didn't make it past the first round.

Blake's dunks were incredibly mediocre....especially jumping over the car (after they gave Serge something like 6 less points for jumping WAAAAAY further out).

I missed the dunk contest for the first time in a few years (some good college ball caught my attention), but the NBA practically told everyone that Blake Griffin would win before the thing even started.

On a related and completely irrelevant note, it really iritates me that they're letting Griffin be a "rookie." I get why, but it still bothers me.

on another note, Brady Jardine's dunk towards the end of the Utah State/St Mary's game was filthy.

This whole thing was staged for Griffin to win. That being said, every one of his dunks was silly except the last one. It was so stupid. Serge Ibaka got robbed on his first one. McGee should have won because all 4 of his dunks were great, original, and extremely difficult. If you thought Griffin wasn't going to win, you just aren't paying attention, that book was written about a month ago.

Jardine was a man among boys w/ that dunk...

Likely so, but I'd say based upon the # of in-game Top-10 dunks he's had, he deserves it. These contests are all nice to watch, but setting up a dunk and executing during a game situation is another thing.

Also, I wonder if he took out a rider on his insurance policy for this stunt...it could have easily turned in to this: http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=7122235n

Agreed, the whole event was staged for Griffin to at least get to the last round so he could jump over a car that also happened to be the official car of the NBA.

Griffin deserved to get to the final, but McGee's dunks were more difficult and original then I had seen in a long time.

This.

Had Griffin (the hyped up star coming into this thing)...somehow NOT made it to the final (which he shouldn't have with those week opening round dunks), how would the NBA have pulled off the commercial (complete with Eminem GM commercial style choir) at the end?

Rigged.

This dunk contest was about two things...

1) it's Kia deal
and
2) hyping a fresh new star

SAVE THE DUNK CONTEST!

Taking out of account who won this dunk contest, I think this was the best dunk contest in a while. All of the contestants brought fresh and original ideas and it was very entertaining to watch.

The 2 dunks I saw Blake Griffin perform were spectacular. Certainly jumping over the car with someone tossing him the ball through the sunroof was a bit commercial, but has anyone done that before? From what I saw of the highlights of the contest Griffin won hands down.

Just remember we're talking entertainment here.

This was a no brainer that Griffin would win the contest. With it being in LA, the only way he would lose is if he missed dunks repeatedly for the whole 2 minute period. Same reason Jordan beat Wilkins in 88, it was in Chicago. In comparison to years past, I thought this was a pretty good dunk contest. I think Magee should have won, although they all were pretty good. I guess I did expect a little more from Griffin. Thought most of his in game dunks were more remarkable than the contest. Sure jumping over a car is great for pageantry but in terms of degree of difficulty in comparison to dunking on two rims simultaneously, didnt think it was all that.
Derozan's pass and catch up and under dunk was a little under rated....Ibaka is one of the very few to actually dunk on or behind the free throw line.

I couldn't put it better

I know it is off topic but did anyone see Chris Cooper from ODU fall looking for the charge then get the rebound a couple seconds later and fall while grabbing for it
