I made a comment the other night that was a little over the top about Norwood. I apologize and it was in anger and i'll never say something like that again unless we finish below the top 4 in CAA (kidding). Let me say this because it is what I really meant. I like Teague a lot actually as an AD, hes done a ton for VCU, and I realize people on these boards like him alot too. However, his March and The Sadness Show is sub par. I've given it three years now. All he talks about is UNC and sucks up to bigger program coaches and programs. Thats all fine and dandy, but not on a radio show where you are speaking on behalf of VCU. Thats right VCU, not UNC, Kansas, Ohio St, Duke, Kentucky etc. I know the show is about Basketball teams' march to the Tourny, NIT, etc., but its as if he only talks about the big time programs even when they are having down years, and not the other conferences top notch teams. I know we are in ACC country, but theres more to the ACC than UNC.

Teague wants an ACC AD job, okay I get that, but don't use that show as a job interview (Chapel Hill are you listening, i'm up here at VCU). If UNC or UVA came a calling for an AD position, go get it. I'd be happy for him, but instead of staining my ears on The March and The Sadness Show about UNC all the time can't you talk about The CAA more? Perhaps the A-10, Big South, SEC or Big East. Take that hour and perhaps have a show about lets say 'Around the CAA' or 'Around the Commonwealth.' I remember when Marty Fletcher, the old VMI coach had his 'State Basketball Report Show.' It was awesome. Something like that would be better than gloating about the 'bandwagon fans/glam team/program' that is UNC. I live in Virginia, not North Carolina. Thank you Jesus for that by the way.

If you made it more of a CAA Show, they could get that beat writer for the Wilmington, NC paper to phone in a bunch. Hes really good I think. He knows the CAA. No ACC or national talk. One gets enough of that from National Syndicated shows all day on 950 and 910 and TV.

Bring on the JW31 bashing...

I doubt it's really his call. Talk to the producer if you have an issue with it. It's not a VCU show....

I wish it was his call. As a person and as an AD for VCU hes outstanding. I know he use to work at UNC, again great gig to really get his career going. I do not knock him for that, but hes a VCU Man. Stop yapping about how wonderful UNC is and the grand tradition they have. Thats all i'm saying. If its not a VCU show (it does lead right into Smart's Show) then call it The March and The Madness for UNC. I'm just scared hes using the show as a job interview at a bigtime school thats all. Let his record at VCU, a great record by the way, speak on his behalf.

actually I tend to agree with JW31...let's suggest to the station to broaden the focus of the show.
I think I heard Coach K is featured this week....not kidding i think robbie mentioned it

let's face it teague and mike have NC ties and the audience is more than vcu (supposedly)so the ACC tie in is something we have to deal with...as the CAA season progresses let's hope the conversation and interviews move to the CAA

meh...not anything to get my shorts in a wad...glad to have that kind of show...featuring other va teams could make it less vcu-centric. The fact it leads into the separate coaches show makes vcu fans claim it is ours but i think the previous poster is right in that it isnt a vcu show
interview CAA coaches...and I think they have inthe past. maybe the inclusion of these acc teams will get us some games   :D

VCU4LIFE, I get that, but he is our AD. He has every right to do the show VCU AD or not, but it is a little to close you know. What if RAO did a show about university presidents, but constantly hyped up and chatted about the University of Notre Dame. That is just how I'm looking at it.

I think the concept is to have a broad based show that would appeal to a wider audience than just VCU fans, which indirectly helps broaden the VCU brand. Plus as a CAA AD I'm not sure it would be a good idea to spend an entire show every week on his views on the conference. Plus isn't there already a weekly CAA oriented show? I know there used to be.

To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of the show either. There are so many outlets to hear about general college basketball stuff so the show doesn't add anything you don't hear elsewhere, but I don't have a problem with the show. Besides, he does spend a few minutes each show addressing VCU related stuff which I find interesting.

Plus I think you guys are exaggerating the UNC stuff. I see it more has relying his experience or knowledge from UNC (and UVa) with regards to what ever topic they're discussing.

Chill,

Great point about not speaking to much on CAA. Now I guess that could be construed as a conflict of interest. I agree, the VCU info is interesting and informative, but how about this...I challenge Norwood to go one show without mentioning UNC, let alone Duke. I bet it would be his best show.

Not knocking your post, but ACC teams coming to the Siegel Ctr.? Ha Ha Ha Ha...
I've said it before i'll say it again...VCU should go play anybody anywhere. I wish we could get better home games (last year and next year, not bad actually) but in 11 years only 23 loses at home. Don't see it. It sucks, and I do think the Ath. Dept. is finally trying to get one or two ACC schools to come here, its just ACC won't touch us in Richmond. UVA, i've heard through folks who actually know, have said they'd play us at JPJ...I say go up there VCU!

Well, there are a lot of basketball fans in Richmond that are not VCU fans. Have you ever considered that they are targeting the entire Richmond audience, not just VCU fans? And that by doing so that they may actually bring listeners in that stick around and get to hear Shaka in the hour after the March into Madness show?

If you were doing a show that was called The March into Madness, and it is about basketball, and you ONLY talked about VCU, do you think the casual non-VCU-fan listener would just tune out? Would a Duke, Maryland, or UNC fan listen very long if they only talked about VCU? Or would it be a better show if they talked to NATIONAL basketball people in an effort to pull in the biggest crowd they could?

I think it is great to showcase the VCU AD on a program that attracts basketball fans, no matter who they cheer for.

thus my obnoxious icons...i say play power 6 teams anywhere...anytime...

Agreed. I'd like to see us play our in-state BCS schools (Virginia and Virginia Tech) at the very least. Even if they won't come to Siegel Center, we'd travel well especially if it was just an easy road trip to UVA.

Mason scored a H&H with UVA so we can't use the "they won't play mids" excuse
