Now that VCU rents out the diamond, what are peoples thoughts on an outdoor mens bball exhibition game against VUU somewhere down the line? It is becoming pretty trendy in the NBA and hockey.

I think that Illinois tried something like this a few years back during a football game...

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Illinois men's and women's basketball teams got an early start to their seasons Saturday, holding what they called the world's largest outdoor basketball practice on a portable court at Memorial Stadium.

It's unlikely they'll be able to repeat it, though. The NCAA is expected to ban such early events after coaches at other schools complained.

From a Wiki site on attendance:

The Spartans also established the world record for single-game basketball attendance by packing in 78,129 fans into Detroit's Ford Field for a battle with Kentucky on December 13, 2003. MSU's record turnout surpassed the previous world mark of 75,000 fans set on August 21, 1951, during a Harlem Globetrotters exhibition game played in Berlin Olympic Stadium in Germany. "The BasketBowl" also broke the NCAA and Big Ten records for single-game attendance. Previously, the largest crowd to watch an NCAA basketball game was 68,112 set on January 20, 1990, when Notre Dame played Louisiana State in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans. The biggest crowd to attend a Big Ten contest was 45,214 on December 3, 1988, when Indiana faced Louisville at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. :o

That was inside though....

Roger, forgot Ford Field was a "domed" stadium. However, the Harlem Globetrotters game was outside with 75,000 at the Berlin Olympic stadium. Thanks. Is it tip-off time yet? :D

idk... with the way the Diamond is configured, you wouldn't be able to seat people along the baselines, and then, I ask you, how would you ever be able to organize freethrow distractions?!? ...and nevermind getting people to stand up... sheesh, c'mon people, priorities!! I just don't see how you could ever make the Diamond one of the mostest-ever hostile places to play in the history of ever.

;)
