Can anyone shed some light for me on this talented Petersburg, VA standout small forward?

Today's Richmond Times Dispatch had a bold front page headline "Maxwell powers Wave to victory", and the article talked about how his 28 points lead the #1 ranked team in VA in a win over John Marshall HS. The article also mentioned how Central Region Player of the Year (for John Marshall) Travis McKie was completely outplayed by Maxwell. I know VCU was interested in Wake Forest bound McKie, but what about Maxwell?

Not considering anyone yet. I expect the kid to go to a BCS program, prob an ACC school. I'd be interested to see if we were in the mix. I guarantee the coaches have seen plenty of what he has to offer, being so close and all.

How many McD's All-Americans have we ever recruited? Not a statistic that I've ever stayed up to date on...

Lebron said if he would have gone to college, we would have attended Akron, no need to be a douche. Nothing is ever certain in life. Nice try though...

Actually I believe it was Ohio State, not Akron. C'mon now. LeBron playing at Akron? I'm sure their fans hoped so.

How many McDonald's All-Americans we've recruited is irrelevant. I believe we are the only CAA school that has ever successfully signed one and had him play. That would be our very own Kendrick Warren whose jersey hangs from the rafters at the Stu.

Good to know, thanks DB

It doesn't hurt to try just to see where we stand. He would be relatively inexpensive to recruit due to the close proximity. Maybe he does end up at an ACC school along with McKie, but maybe they decide in a couple of years that isn't working out for them and they want to make a change. Could pay off for us then as well.

is there a reason if he is a McDonald's All-American Nominee that he is rated low by the different scouting lists? 1 star by scout, not ranked at all by rivals and 86 by ESPN.

There are literally hundreds and hundreds of nominees each year. Rob Brandenberg was nominated from his team this year. Being a nominee and a parade (actually playing in the game) McDonald's All-American are two entirely different things.

Du'Vaughn has been at several games at the Stu this season. He is 6'6" with a 7' wingspan. Would be a great local get for VCU.

that was my general thought but the top of this thread was acting as if he was actually going to make the team. is maxwell better than the initial ratings and just havent been redone since?

Gotta love some Central District talent....(Go TD Knights).

I always want the best players we can get on our squad, but local talent is always a plus. Petersburg has a great history as well, churns out tons of talent. If he can ball, I'd love to see him trade in the Crimson and Gold for Black and Gold.

Agreed. Maxwell would be a great get for us.

would fit the build of the other recruits we have signed who's length make them play bigger than listed heights.
