Pierria' was initially a 92 when he committed to the Rams in the spring but was downgraded to a 90 shortly after committing to VCU. Well he's back up to 92 now and rated the #35 PG as well. As far as recruits go, right now that is tied for tops in the CAA with Jervon Pressley who committed to GSU. Pressley is a nice talent with a bit of an immaturity problem, if he can get over that and stay on the court, he will be a nice frontcourt player for GSU. Treveon remains unranked as a 40 (meaning he hasn't been evaluated yet) but talking to people around the program he is considered to be just as good a player as Pierria' is. That should bode well for us. Briante Weber remains an 89.

I've received several questions regarding Pierria's commitment to VCU. At this time, he is still firmly committed to VCU. That situation is fluid however.

Think he is planning on signing as soon as he can or waiting until the end of football season?

I believe the fall signing period is November 10-17. Still a long time before getting signatures from these kids.

All of the guys are expected to sign in November. If Pierria' doesn't get the football offer he's looking for, he will sign then along with Briante Weber and Treveon Graham.

And what offer is he looking for? Opportunity to play both sports?

Well Marshall has already offered him in both sports, so I would assume he would like to play both sports at the BCS level if possible, or the right offer for football at a big-time football school. Pure speculation on my part, I don't know what he's thinking.

not that i know one way or the other, but my guess is that this kid never puts on a vcu uniform.

I wouldn't go that far. It's far more likely that he sticks to his commitment than that he goes elsewhere. Remember the circumstances around his commitment, he's got a GREAT relationship with Mike Jones.

plus he has to llok at the Fab 5 and think there is a good thing going on at the Stu

Maybe its just me, but still being open to other offers doesn't sound like a solid commitment to me.

If he comes he comes if not we will bring somebody in as good or better
I also agree with Chill holding out for the football offer you want isnt exactly a strong commitment

Just like Ben Finney, Henry's best sport is football. But Finney turned down a scholarship offer from Va. Tech to play basketball at ODU, so maybe Henry will do the same even if a big-time football school comes after him.

We had a similar case with Jesse Pellot-Rosa at FUMA. His best sport was probably football. You gotta be pretty good if you're getting NFL tryouts sight unseen having never played college football.

I've been told by several people that Pierria' is a mid-Big East level guard. Graham and Henry will be a formidable backcourt and that's not even including Briante Weber who is probably the most athletically explosive of the 3.

Right now, it's looking good. Marshall and West Virginia are after him for football, but he's still looking to join VCU at this point. I agree it's not the most firm commitment and God knows we've been burned a couple of times, but I'm told this isn't quite the same situation. It's more football coaches that are coming after Pierria' as opposed to him seeking them out. His high school football coach is convinced that he should be playing Saturday afternoons and evenings in college on the football field. Pierria' loves both sports so it's easy to understand why he would listen to some of the guys pushing football. He's pretty darn good at it too.

He has the potential to be even better on the hardwood when he gets time to solely focus on basketball, right now he's an all-around player. He makes things happen and is a high-level athlete who can score but really prides himself on defense. He's one of the best on the ball defenders in the state of West Virginia. I think he could be great in our up-tempo scheme and I hope he sticks where is at now, committed to VCU.

Is our objective then to stay closely attached [visible] to Henry while he sorts out the decision between football and basketball, and if he doesn't go football he signs with VCU?

IF so, our only controllable option is to keep VCU coaches, brand visible.

Any chance we can have him back on campus? Seems to me for a young man like this best solution would be to get him engaged with present players so he can relate to their future vision...this kid just wants to be the best in my opinion, and he can get there via bb at VCU.

Not saying he won't ultimately choose basketball and sign with VCU, but ...

Athletic 6-4 combo guards are a dime a dozen in Division I college basketball. Athletic 6-4 wide receivers with speed are precious gems in football, both on the college and pro levels.

If Henry makes it through the football season without re-injuring his leg, other big-time football offers will come. National signing day for football isn't until early February and there will be intense pressure for him to wait and see if somebody better than WVU or Marshall comes along.

Like I mentioned earlier, Finney had an offer in hand from a top-10 football program and chose to play basketball in the CAA instead. Maybe Henry sees his long-term future in hoops and follows a similar path.
