Post season projections for the CAA

I know it will be a week before the announcements, but what do you think? If WM wins tonight then both WM and ODU to the dance. If ODU win then only ODU to the dance. NIT: VCU, WM (if they lose to ODU), NU. GMU to CBI? Hofstra? With an RPI of 65, do you really think we will get an invitation to the NIT?
 
W&M has to win to get a bid, if not they go to the NIT. ODU is probably a lock for the NCAA either way. I think NU gets an NIT bid. With all these BCS programs having a down year, I wouldn't be surprised either way regarding us and the NIT.
 
Actually it does not look good for NU. Their RPI is 71. WM's is 59. Ours is 65. The suspense is killing me.
 
NU will be ahead of us in NIT selection, they are better in caa record and swept us head to head :evil:

Then it does not look good for us. Honestly I would be surprised if we got an NIT bid. But I am hopeful.
 
Best case scenario for us to get to the NIT is.

W&M beats ODU and gets the auto-bid to the NCAA.

ODU gets an at-large to the NCAA.

NIT selects NU (I agree they are ahead of us) and takes one more team...that would be between VCU and GMU most likely. I think we have GMU covered, having beaten them in the CAA tourney and possessing a better overall record and RPI.

Otherwise, say hello to a third rate tourney.
 
I agree, 3 nit bids for caa is not likely.
however, if wm upset odu tonight, they would be both in ncaa, and we should be able to get in nit with nu together. It's not likely either though, wm is soft and doesn't macth up with odu very well.

Totally disagree. I thnk we will be in the NIT and get a home game.

Don't have time to post all numbers today but look at OOC play, RPI, SOS, OOC RPI and OOC SOS. Don't forget two things- First NIT is all about money and we can pack our house for a game. Second, we are in the preseason NIT next year. It might make for some nice promotional consideration for next year to have teams that will be there.

That said,I think:

ODU is a lock at this point for a NCAA bid.
W&M will go to the NCAA with a win in the final, NIT with a loss.
VCU will be in the NIT. Might get a home game, unless we go to the ACC.
NU has an outside shot. But thier OOC profile is weak.

As for the CIT and CBI. Don't care and don't want to play.
 
Rick, I'm with you the whole way, except for not playing in the CLIT tournaments. Basketball is basketball, and like a crappy bowl game is to football, they give us a chance to play more, and develop more, and gives Shaka more coaching experience.
 
If we're in a 3rd rate tournament (first of all, expect heck from ODU) then I want to see the freshman playing a large amount of minutes. Gotta see if they're going to be important parts of the team in the future, or just guys to commit fouls.
 
I think NU is more of a lock for the NIT than we are. They finished 2nd in the reg season only one game out. They made the semis of the tourney and lost to another team who until recently had a good at-large resume. They swept VCU in the regular season and last I checked they had a respectable RPI of 71. They have a better NIT profile than we do in every area except for OCC record. At the end of the day the only REALLY GOOD wins we had were against Richmond and ODU (and they beat us 2 out of 3).

VCU gets the NIT nod over NU . NU started slowly and finished poorly. They may get 2000 for the home game should they get one. But their late season swoon, which is a comsideration for the NCAA selection committee, coupled with their poor start keeps them out of the NIT. W&M however will join us in the NIT.
 
Need I remind u that NU almost won the regular season title? Finished in 2nd place a full 3 spots ahead of VCU?? NU's playing in the NIT. We can disagree on seeds but NU's playing in the NIT.

I really disagree that NU underachieved. We finished exactly where we were projected to. We're 1(or 7 based on the ending of that W&M game) shots away from playing and beating ODU in the title game. Say what you want about that team but underachieved isn't the word that comes to mind.
 
VCU's in the NIT over NU if you have to choose between the teams. Our computer numbers are better across the board. That said, I think both teams get in. VCU will be the higher seed of the two, but NU will be there. They deserve to be as well. I think you definitely underachieved out of conference and there is little argument to be had there. You did well in-conference and props should be given for that. It's just too bad Janning, Ojougboh, Adako and Bataille never got to see the NCAA's. This was the year for NU to get there if they were going to...they take a big step back next year. Coen will build em up again but they lose a lot and it'll take a while.

I think W&M, VCU, and NU all represent the league in the NIT.
