I was just thinking about when Caple left and Grant took over. A lot of the conversation coming from the new staff centered around pressure defense and how it would be the staple of the program. 3 years later, I have to say that I believe it was. Whether it was half or full court, VCU defended the ball very well (most of the time) and thrived on creating turnovers resulting from pressure defense.
Looking forward to the upcoming year, I see some interesting parallels for sure. Obviously not having #3 changes a lot of things but the principles are still the same. If we can apply consistent pressure and create turnovers, the PG situation will look much better. It is already going to be a transition that at times will be difficult due to the growing pains. Let's just hope Shaka takes the torch from Grant with regards to how we'll play defense because we all know it at least gives us a chance to win in a well balanced league.
