Props for the PEP band

I was in the pep band from 92-96....LOT'S of Jazz guys...and better yet...Professor Doug Richards Jazz Guys!!! Might of been rough in the 80's....but we killed in the 90's
BEST trumpet section in VCU history
Mambo Bob Miller (played with a million bands...notably Bio Ritmo
Tim "No Nickname" Lett (also Bio Ritmo)
Nick "The Greek" Panos (currently a restaurant owner in FLA...killer range-Double high C?...he could do it cold)
Russ "The Redneck" Anderson (played lead in Jazz Orc II...could part your hair with his high notes)
John Utley (My roomate and longtime member of Fighting Gravity...I know, gross)
another notable member...?
Gordy Haab (Trombone)...currently writing music for Hollywood films and generally making it big in the City of Angels.

For those of you that remember....we had juggling trombone players, Rock Steady drummer (Tim's brother Steve)...and a couple woodwinds who were there to revel in the glory of the Brass section and generally look pretty.

I like the band now....could use more high end brass....but they get the crowd into the game....and that is job #1. I don't think people realize how incredibly good the VCU Music program is and how respected we are nationwide.

Keep it up Pep Band!!!

I wanna say Panos made an appearance with the Pep Band as recently as the 2004 CAA Tourney....

I had a big response posted but it is apparently in cyber Neverland at this point.

The Cliff Notes:

- The Pep Band is awesome and continues to get awesomer (yes, awesomer). Love the new music. I always like to get their early just so I can hear some more of the band.

- Keep up the high energy strip show. I'm not much one for male strippers myself, but it works. Also, can't wait for the return of the Flair robe. Wooooo!

- If you're taking requests, I'll put mine in for the return of "Whatever You Like." The band version of that song is so much cooler than the actual song.

- I brought a Virginia Tech graduate with me to the game on Saturday. He loved you guys as well, and was particularly impressed with energy and the jumping around. I think he may have also fallen in love with the one female band member that kept shrieking/providing funny commentary.

- Keep up the great work!

I'll have to ask him....all trumpet players like to show off and usually have that mercenary mentality.

I'll also add my favorite trumpet joke (bear in mind I'm a trumpet player)

What do trumpet players use for birth control?

their personalities

Viva la Pep

Package:

Dude - your the real thing - seriously - don't change a thing and keep doing your stuff. I always try and say hello to you at the games and just want to do a shout out for the great work that you do each VCU game. Thank you!

VCUBeatsduke

PS: Is it true Grant tried to recruit you to Bama?

A guy carrying a trumpet case walks into a bank and stands in line for a teller. The bank employees start eyeing each other nervously as the guy is also wearing sunglasses. By the time he gets to the teller you could cut the tension in the bank with a knife. The guy opens the trumpet case, pulls out a pistol and yells "Gimme all your money!"

The teller smiles with obvious relief and says "Oh thank God. I thought you had a trumpet and was going to play it."

Kudos to the band and TPkg. You do what you do better than anyone. Keep it up.

Yes, this and "Crazy" need to be played more....very good arrangements of both!

Ahh the good ole days. Yes Nick played with band a few years ago. I went to school with all of those guys! heck I eve went to high school with Russ "the redneck' Anderson and got him the job he has now. I will take the pepsi challenge with my players of today. This band is sooo balanced and the reason you dont hear as much screaming trumpet is because the band is soooo large and so loud its hard for them to cut through and keep their chops all game. The last time Nick played I had a hard time hearing him come through. All those guys are super cool BTW and I would lo have them play with us. As a matter of fact I tried to get Nick to play at the beggening of the season before I knew he was in Florida. Some of the new charts we are looking forward to get:
November Rain
Live and Let Die
Empire State of Mind
Turn My Swag On
Down

As well as some others. I am really looking forward to Wed. So you all soon!

If you're taking requests,
when you guys play the ghostbusters song...instead of "YOOO MAMAAMA" maybe "who we gonna call..COACH SMART?" You know something slightly more vcu basketball related lol

TTLPKG- I can’t say enough how much you have done for the band! And continue to do. Some of us know the state of the band between your playing days and conducting days, and thanks to you and some others (McCutchen is a Dr. now from what I hear!) the band climbed out of the direction it was headed and has continued to grow into a band that I have yet to see matched in college basketball! To be able to say I was a part of the band brings a great since of pride! Keep up the great work!

I like inserting players names there (gotta be 3-4 syllables though to work well).
