As most of us younger Ram fans obviously know about Sanders and Maynor making to the NBA, I was left wanting to know how many total former Rams have made it to the NBA?

I do remember Gerald Henderson playing for the Celtics back in the day as well.

So outside of Sanders, Maynor, and Henderson I was wanting to know if you guys pic your brains on this topic as I am debating amongst friends in Illinois this issue.

It looks like that Henderson had the best NBA career out of all of our VCU brothren. Let's hope that Eric and Larry have NBA careers similar in length and productivity to Gerald.

Besides Maynor and Henderson (Sanders hasn't played in the NBA yet) the other VCU player was Ed Sherrod. He was at VCU like 79-83 I think, he had a really nice stroke on his shot, similar to Johnny Newman but Ed did not have the height of Newman. It was exciting that he got to the NBA but he did not do much when he got there but I think he stayed like the entire season. So like a one hit wonder, its still alot better than all the guys who never had the one hit.
Of course we (class of 85) all thought CD would do ok in the NBA as he had such good ability to penetrate (his nickname was PM the penetrating machine) but it never happened for him. I never followed the NBA that closely so I guess the skills Calvin had were not needed.
Well us old timers need our naps now

and Bernard Harris with Buffalo, though the time was minimal. As for Duncan, he opted out. Do the research. Maybe he would have eventually been cut, but he wasn't cut.

Sherod played at VCU from 77-81. He actually started at point guard his rookie season for Hubie Brown's New York Knicks. I lived in New Jersey during his time with the Knicks and caught most of their games, which were broadcast by Marv Albert and Butch Beard. I still have a New York Times article (and picture) somewhere on Captain Ed entitled "Learning the City Position," which was about Sherod's experience of being a starting point guard in the Big Apple.

Unfortunately, the Knicks weren't very good, Hubie got fired and Captain Ed got traded to the Nets. He then sustained a knee injury and wasn't able to make a successful comeback (surgical procedures back then weren't as successful as they are now).

Ed Sherod, Bernard Harris, Jesse Dark (Dark and Harris graduated and played during the same year) I think both of those guys were on the team about a year but didn't play much.

Also, Mark Jackson played at VCU. However, he transferred to Temple.

Also, we had one Ram play in the Olympics. He played on either the Russian team.

We had 3 players in the Olympics - Evgeny Kissourin for Russia, Sherman Hamilton for Canada, and Yann Banato for France.

Kissourin leaving us to go pro overseas cost us a sure NCAA bid in the Kendrick years. That was the year that Rodney Ashby started at Center.

What about Ndongo for Cameroon?

Remember Sherman, forgot about Banato? Did all three play in the 2000 Olympics? If so did any medal? Was Sherman the only one who played more than a year? Have any of the CAA teams had Olympic basketball players as well?
