I can't say it enough...no second half adjustments. They attacked the paint on every single play from the 2nd half on and we did absolutely nothing about it. We destroyed them in the paint in the first half, Laranaga adjusted..they got the win because we did not adjust.

Terrible loss for VCU, should have been avoided.

edit* I think this one all but assures we'll be playing on Friday night (I don't see this team winning a road game at ODU)...and our at slim large hopes just vanished as well

Re: Questionable Coaching

But this is what happened at William and Mary too. Something about playing on the road makes our coaching schemes fizzle out in the second half.

Yup.

I was not impressed by Mason at all. We are obviously a better team as far as talent goes. But Shaka made first-year head-coach mistakes. This loss is entirely on his shoulders.

Re: Questionable Coaching

yeah, Larranaga had better kung fu than Shaka, but I think a lot of it was also a combination of haphazzard execution by our players, and a huge jump-up in intensity by the pats players... I think individualizing the blame misses the mark, but in the end, the buck does stop on top

How can this loss fall entirely on Shaka's shoulders? Countless missed free throws. Dumb fouls. Ton of turnovers in OT.

this

...plus Mason does actually have a good coach, some talented players, and a proven homecourt advantage

Agree with Nick and Art....we lost this one as a team. You could point the finger a lot of ways...not just at Shaka.

I don't think we're a lock for Friday night, either...some of you guys have to lighten up.

Agreed.

We don't move down unless Drexel wins. Even then, we play them in a week at home, so we have a good shot to get that spot back. I don't see W&M overtaking us either.

Because we let them erase our 13 point halftime lead and score 41 points in the second half on the same play.

Coaches gotta adjust, gotta coach.

The game was decided before OT. Shaka has gotten better as the year goes on. We all need to remember he is a rookie coach. GMU came at us in the second half and we didnt respond. Why do players not understand the the officials are going to let the other team push and hold to try to get back in the game. Our players constantly in the second half would turn to the refs with a look saying "come on".
Shaka has to instill that in them. Quit crying you know its coming. Now a days in college basketball you are better being down by 8 to 12 points in the second half

I saw the team attempting to do things... attempting to get the ball inside... attempting but failing... getting it down low, only to fumble... or getting a foul and missing the free throws... there was plenty of failed execution, and Mason, the crowd, and the refs got into our guys' heads

We are a more talented team than any in the league. This squad should not be giving away 15 points leads like they're business cards. Our staff makes very few adjustments, and assembled very questionable rotations.

They hit only 3 shots from long range on the night...

Cam long got 9 of his 19 at the free throw line
C - Mike Morrison 18
F - Louis Birdson 13
F - Ryan Pearson 12

They shot 21% from long range yet we never through a zone at them. That's probably why they killed us in the paint.

Hmm, let's see.

He plays 4 guards at a stretch in the game when we're getting killed down low.
He doesnt play Brandon a second of overtime.
We failed to make adjustments in the 2nd half, and Mason did.
We almost ran out of post players bc, well...our coach doesnt recruit/sign them.
We blew a double digit lead for the 4th time this year.
Our only win against an upper tier CAA opponent this year was last Sat. We are 0-4 against Mason, NE, and DRexel.

Exactly love watching Joey penetrate into the lane to create a 3 for THEUS!! I like Theus but he is not a shooter. Don't understand those two in there together
