Virginia Commonwealth University has declared Andrea Barbour, a highly-regarded transfer from Patrick Henry Community College, ineligible for the first semester of the 2010-11 women's basketball season.
Barbour, a 5-10 redshirt junior who averaged 23.8 ppg last season at Patrick Henry, will sit while issues regarding NCAA academic requirements - specifically, progress toward a degree - are addressed. Rams coach Beth Cunningham said she hopes Barbour will join the Rams' lineup in early February.
Cunningham said Barbour "worked very hard academically this summer prior to enrolling at VCU. Since she has arrived on campus . . . [Barbour] has done everything we have asked of her."
Barbour played at Virginia Tech as a freshman in 2008. She averaged 15.0 ppg and was named to the ACC's all-rookie team. - Vic Dorr Jr.
