Newport News, Va. – The VCU Men's Tennis team was dominant in singles competition at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational. Four different Rams won their respective singles brackets.

Leading the way for the Black & Gold was Tim Johannsen (Hohenlockstedt, Germany), Filip Svensson (Angelholm, Sweden), Jaime Vasquez Catoira (La Coruna, Spain) and Jordan Dyke (Alexandria, Va.) all took home singles first place finishes.

Sophomore Camill Saloman (Limoges, France) also had a strong showing for the Rams. He fell just short of matching his four teammates when he finished second in the Men's B2 Singles bracket.

Top finishes in doubles begin with the pairing of Filip Svensson and Max Wennakowski. The duo took the Men's A2 Doubles bracket by defeating Chris Brown and Devard Wharton of Howard University in the finals. Teammates Camill Saloman and Jordan Dyke advanced to the finals of the B1 Doubles bracket, but failed to match Svensson and Wennakowski's finals success.

The Men's Tennis team will resume action on October 20th at Charlottesville, Virginia for the ITA Atlantic Regional.

BARA, RAMS ROLL THROUGH HAMPTON ROADS COLLEGIATE INVITE

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University's Women's Tennis team saw success in singles and doubles actions at the Hampton Roads Collegiate Invitational. At the forefront of the Rams' success was the doubles pairing of Ana Bara (Oradea, Romania) and Josefin Hjertquist (Spanga, Sweeden). The duo won the Women's A1 Doubles draw after defeating Navy's Amanda Griffin and Kourtney Howell in the finals.

In the other doubles draw, the VCU duo of Daria Yakavleva (Minsk, Belarus) and Kateryna Yergina (Kiev, Ukraine) advanced to the semifinals of the bracket before falling to the team of Lauren Greco and Stephanie Wetmore of Georgetown University.

On the singles side of things, VCU's highlight was the all-Ram final in the Women's A2 Singles bracket. Ana Bara and Daria Yakavleva both advanced to the final. Each won three straight matches against opponents from Norfolk State, NJIT, Temple, James Madison and others.

The Rams will be back in action again on October 21st at the ITA Regionals in Norfolk, Virginia
