FAIRFAX, Va. – All anyone can ask for is to get better each and everyday.
For Head Coach Jon Riley of the Virginia Commonwealth University track & field programs, he is seeing exactly that from both his men's and women's squads. The Rams reeled off yet another strong performance, this time at the Patriot Games, hosting by George Mason University.
"I'm really pleased with the effort all of our athletes gave today," Riley said. "I'm seeing more and more progress every week. Things are really beginning to take shape."
On the men's side, senior Axel Mostrag not only took top prize, but qualified for the IC4A Championships with a time of 2:28.21 in the 1000-meter run.
Antonio Norvell (pictured, right) and Donnie Seward joined their classmate with victories of their own in the long jump and 200-meter dash, respectively. Not far off of Norvell's leap was redshirt freshman Andre Hunter, who finished third in the event.
On the women's side, junior Jazlynn Finney had a big day, grabbed first-place in the long jump with a jump of 5.59 and second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.93.
Fellow junior Rachel Montague earned top honors in the triple jump, taking first-place with a jump of 11.64. It was a personal best for the New Jersey native.
Wrapping up the Black & Gold winners on the afternoon was senior Quina Fortune who took home first with a time of 1:17.13.
Junior Allison Morris (pictured, left) carried over her momentum from last week with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.60 m.
