So I broke from my long time place standing on the baseline and sat in section 9 behind the team bench. As I walked up my seat, I first noticed a group of four guys wearing Bishop O'Connell warm-ups. I immediately recognized top PG pick Kendall Marshall (UNC) who I have met a few times as one of my former middle school players is leading O’Connell’s JV team as PG, and trains with Kendall's dad. Turns out one of the other O'Connell guys is brother to a VCU player. Not sure who.

By the way if you have not seen Kendall play and live in the NOVA area, you should check him out, this kid is legit!

Any way, the main reason for my post . . .

I noticed a rather large gentleman a few rows below them in Kings Fork HS warm-ups. I didn't really think much about it until I was trying to find out who the O’Connell guy is related to and searching through VA recruits and saw Davante, I am pretty sure this is the guy I saw. Anyone else catch this?

Davante Gardner is listed as 6'7'' to 6'9'' (depending which site you look at) and 300lbs, a big body power forward who averaged 16.2 pts and 8.2 rbs in his Jr year at King Fork in Suffolk and plays for the Petersburg Elite AAU. He is listed as 3 star and not commited by scout.

Any of the wiser recruiting guys know anymore on the 2010 recruit?

They mentioned on the radio show that there were a number of big recruits at the game.

6-9 and 3 bills is certainly a big recruit. Can you imagine a smooth 6-11 Sanders and a barn-sized 300lbs PF beside him next season? One pushes you around and the other blocks your shot.

He'll need to trim down a bit to be able to run with these guys.

Interesting, Jordan Burgess a 2011 recruit has been offered by VCU, (and Mason), a 6'3'' shooting guard at O'Connell, it will be exciting to watch him play this year, if he is anything like his brother, bring him on!

I saw Jorday Burgess play last year and he is not like his brother, VCU should take a pass. He is another undersized PF lacking perimeter skills unless he improved a lot over t he summer.

We could rotate through every type of big man next year, if we signed Gardner. The skyscraper albatross in Sanders, the outside threat in Skeen and the wide body of Gardner. An answer for any post problem somewhere in there.

Scouts has him listed as Small Forward from Benedictine, I am assuming that is where you saw him last year? On Rivals he is listed as a Shooting Guard and is at O'Connell now. Who knows maybe the move will help him. They have some good shooting coaches up there at O'Connell and spending the year getting assists from one of the top PG recruits in the country can't hurt either.

we certainly need some post players and he can play in the post, but tough to imagine a guy who has negatives of slow, no lift and stamina in this system that is based on all the opposites of that. maybe with work with our strength and conditioning team we can improve the weight so the stamina and speed are better, but watching video of him he is not a defensive presence at all cause he doesnt get off the floor and as big as he is even at the mid-major level he would be susceptible to weak side shot blockers coming over it appears.

anyone know who else was at the game since it has been said smart's presser was delayed for recruits?

I thought he went to O'Connell last year after spending his freshman year at Benedictine. Is he a junior this year?

my understanding is that he is a junior, but I dont know on when he whent where. I just know that Scouts, even now has him listed as a SF from Benedictine and Rivals as SG from O'Connell. All I know for sure is that he is at O'Connell now.

yea, he is at o'connell for his 2nd year, he is a junior listed as an '11. Most list him as a shooting guard though some of the local lists list him as a sf/wing type. 6 5" would be an excellent size at the 2 guard if he can shoot like a 2.

Capitol hoops has Jordan at #21 on there list of 2011 recruits.
