1) Good season, but disappointed after home OOC wins to start season; wins and losses inconsistent
2) Team learned to win without Eric, although no consistent go-to leader stepped forward
3) Coaching staff appears solid; Smart will continue to get better and better--excellent recruitier thus far
4) Starting five usually consisted of 4 juniors and a sophmore--next year very experienced
5) Excellent returners + good recruits + good coaching + great fan base = VERY BRIGHT FUTURE

Regardless if Larry stays, next year is very promising. Larry needs to stay.

If he goes off in the tourney like he did last year, you won't be rethinking that.

thats why i said games like this. hopefully there won't be any games like this in both tournaments

20 win season, tough to hate on esp. with loss of Eric and AG.
Very poor road resume, with best win @ Hofstra...
Win a CAA Championship and every Ram fan is happy.

I hate to steal it from another university that I might like but,
IT'S GREAT TO BE A VCU RAM, I SAID IT'S GREAT TO BE A VCU RAM!
Goodnight guys and girls, I'm stoked for next week!

Regular season in review? We are what we are. FRI 2:30. SAT 2:30. SUN 3:00. Monday night.

If you didn't see Joey as the true, go-to leader of this team this season, you were watching a different team than I was.

It was a tougher league this year and we dropped a couple we shouldn't have. It happens in college basketball. For quite a number of reasons this year I'd say we underachieved considering our potential but still happy with a 20 win seasons. Also stoked for the tourney!!!!

I definitely agree with you.

I really have a problem with this "underachieving" thing. Underachieved based on what?

In the preseason poll we were picked 3rd, we finished 5th. There's like one game separating teams 3 through 6. If you ask me we are pretty much in the ballpark of where we were predicted to be.

Underachieving based on talent? We lost the two time CAA player of the year. Joey has exceeded my wildest expectations coming into this season, but he's still no Eric Maynor. And though statistically Larry has improved this season, I'm not sure he fulfilled his role as "da man" with Eric gone. One miscalculation I made was thinking we could be better off with a "go-to guy by committee" team versus an Eric all day every day team. I think we missed Eric in more ways than people want to admit. Also, in case anyone is paying attention, other teams have talent too you know. I think a lot of folks evaluate our talent in a vacuum.

Underachieved based on fan expectations? That's where we're hitting on something. And this is the least tangible, logical, or credible criteria to base underachieving on. Unless you are an insider, there were way too many varibles and unknowns going into this season to really form any expectations that weren't very broad (i.e. I expect us to contend for one of the top four seeds). From what I've been reading a lot of expectations were based on players most had never seen before and expecting players to perform at level that had not previously performed at. Not to mention a 1st year head coach most knew nothing about. So if expectations weren't met, in my opinion that's more about you than the team.

And as other have pointed out, the tournament is where the final chapter of the season will be written. Win the tournament and everyone will forget everything that happened before February 27th.

I think you are onto something here Chilly. We along with several other teams had the potential to win the league this year, but that doesn't change the fact that only one team can do that. I would agree that we certainly haven't overachieved, but I don't think that we have underachieved either. Overall that is, we probably overachieved during the OOC portion which elevated expectations, but I would attribute that to playing so many of them at home. Last year many of those same OOC teams beat us on the road.
