We'll all remember many things about Eric, and every time I see him, I'll thank him for coming to VCU, and making us better. But the thing I'll thank him about most is his courage. Man, when that guy decided to take it inside, more often than not he ended up landing on the hardwood on a part of the anatomy that wasn't designed to take that kind of punishment, not on a regular basis. One reason he was able to finish so well, is because he gave up his body to finish those shots.

The other trait he had that was so inspiring for me to watch was he change of speed. His outright speed wasn't all that amazing, but his stop and go, and direction changes were a thing of beauty that I've seen in few other players, at least at the CAA level.

What will you guys remember?

After this off season I think the biggest thing he did for us was keeping the team together after Capel left and not following him out to OK. That made everything else that he did here possible. He also could have left for the NBA after his Jr. season but returned for his Sr. year where he broke records, returned to the NCAA tourney, and saw his draft stock rise. That is a good example for a guy like Larry who is in a similar situation with the coaching change and will be in another similar situation regarding the draft next year.

Another thing I noticed about Eric. After he had his breakout, signature, come-from-behind effort at the end of the CAA final against Mason, I had this picture of a guy who had come in 2nd in his own state championship game thinking, I'm not going to let this happen again if I have any say in the matter.

Then, that off season, he participates in the All-Americas games (or whatever they were called), goes to Steve Nash's skills camp, after having played in 2 rounds of the NCAA's where he found out his peer group was just about anybody in the NCAA field, then stays here another 2 years, and builds on his skills more each year. What an example! What a student athlete.

I'll always remember how his floaters just look like he tossed it up by accident but almost always managed to make it in. Controlled chaos I guess...

What I'll remember most is after hitting "the dagger" and getting mugged by Shuler, he points to the VCU section and yells "that's for you!"

If Maynor is able to have a solid NBA career (a la Speedy Claxton) I have a feeling he'll be giving a lot back to the university once he's in a position to do so.

The times i've met Eric I was always treated as if he knew me all his life. A true class individual. I really don't care about the NBA, but where ever hes goes, THAT will be my favorite NBA team.

By the way, Larry is the same way. Hopefully he'll end up on the same NBA team as Maynor. I can dream can't I?.....VCU's basketball program is so easy to be proud of........

Remember him?

how could you forget him!?

All of the Above and more. I remember watching him in the B&G game as a freshman and telling my buddies after the game that he will be a player we will remember. He became much more then that. I have never had the opportunity to personnaly talk to him, but I have heard nothing but the highest praise for him as a person.

What I remembered the most was that he got good grades along with me being an excellent basketball player. All the other stuff is nice too.

Well thanks to me attending most of his games, the constant topic discussions on the boards about Mr. Maynor, the millions of pics and vids about him....I think its safe to say that I will never forget that guy. :D

And since he is going to the next level, I will have him on my TV for a few more years. I shall never forget how he played the game here at VCU.

Perhaps his greatness and how much he did for VCU will be not be fully realized until a few years down the track, but one thing Eric has already done is raise VCU's standing on the college basketball pyramid. We're no longer a "mid-major" we are considered a "high mid major".

You talk to friends out west, or down in Texas, they know who VCU is because of Eric Maynor. Yes we had great players/coaches in the past, but it was Eric who really put us on the map.

Of course Eric will be remembered as someone who conducted himself on and off the court very respectably and continued the VCU tradition of greatness. But the one moment that I will remember, well maybe two are First: During his freshman year playing in the ODU game at the Siegel Center he made clutch free throw after clutch free throw and I just remember myself leaning over to my friend saying that this guy is clutch and will be a great player for us in the future...how right I was. ;)

Second is him almost hitting either the game winner or game tier from nearly half court against Appy State either his freshman or sophomore year.

There are so many memories that Eric has created for VCU fans over the years and I remember most of them. These are just some lesser talked about moments of greatness from Eric Maynor.
