I went to the summer league tonight to check it out. Brad Byerson played in the first game along with Glen dandridge (mizzou by way of goochland). Decent game. Travis Mckie was there. said this was his first night. I think he just got back from the nike peach jam. no sign of larry or brandon. there are no rosters at all. Lamar Taylor was playing in the 2nd game when i left. the gym was warm and since there was no sign of any rams i bolted. they play next week and then the playoffs are the last week in july. ben wallace's team was off tonight. Guess the rams are not going to play again this year :(

Last I heard is that they were still waiting on NCAA clearance, suppose to have happened this week but I guess not.

Went over to John Marshall last night to watch summer league.
In the 1st game Travis McKie and his team destroyed someone by 30! On this Mckie's team was former VCU baller Jesse Pellot-Rosa. He was on fire! His game looked strong, along with his jumper. In the 2nd game was BIG BEN WALLACE. He can play some Defense! On his team was another VCU baller, Kendrick Warren. The old man looked good on defense too. Kendrick was at TJ when I was at Freeman. One of my favorite ballers in the area. I'm just giving my opinion, but McKie's game was weak. I'm glad to have Bradford Burgess. Travis needs to hi the weight room and the buffet. Go out and see some summer league if you can!

Can anyone help out with a schedule of these games? I think they are only on tues, wed, thurs right? Starting at 7pm? Perhaps two or three more weeks of games? THX

The games are Tues, Wed, and Thurs and they start at 545 pm. They play 3 games a nite. Travis McKie team is more than likely going to win it though, like L72boy said they murdered that team by 30 and Jesse hit like 7 3s but their team is just stacked with Jesse, Travis, the Jaaber brothers (Luqman (George Wythe & VUU) and Ibrahim (PENN)) and Chris Moss (West Virginia) and thats just the starting 5 and i think Ted Berry (Huguenot) . Ibrahim has by far the best 1 on 1 defense in the summer league, its unfair to watch anyone match up with them.

You have a keen eye for talent, 804.

Ibrahim Jaaber, the half brother of the former Union star and VCU tormentor, was the Ivy League Player of Year as a junior and senior at Penn, while scoring 1,517 career points and setting an Ivy record with 303 career steals - including 9 in one game.

Ibrahim grew up in Elizabeth, N.J., but often visited his brother in Richmond. They're seen playing pickup games at American Family Fitness/Swift Creek (p.s. their side usually wins).

About five inches taller than Luqman, I. Jaaber now plays on the Bulgarian National Team.

Ibrahim actually used to go to George Wythe with Luqman his (Ibrahim) freshman year before he moved up to NJ. I know both of them and both can lock whoever they are checking DOWN. Ibrahim was actually playing over in Italy (Lottomatica Virtus Roma) and was the one of if not the main reason Brandon Jennings barely sniffed the court. Ibrahim said he might play here in the States this year. Also Jesse is supposed to be going back to Puerto Rico in a couple of weeks to try out for the National Team for the Olympics.

I see Jesse is in this league, and it sounds like playing well. He was one of the toughest VCU guards I recall in a long time--loved his physical play, especially for a guard. What does he now do?
Jesse, thanks for all the great memories wearing the black & gold--best to your life's pursuits.
VCU Fan, class of '81

Jesse played in puerto rico last year after graduating in december 2008. he left right after the semester to play pro ball. he is all heart. one of my all time favorite vcu players - probably in my top 5 actually !

"heart" has become an overused cliche, unfortunately. Nonetheless, Jesse personifies heart. He is one of the greatest rams of all-time IMO. One of my all-time favorites - loved the way he played, loved the way he carried himself - and I've been a fan/student of this program for many years. Character, toughness, heart...Pellot-Rosa.

I worked in Fork Union briefly and met the basketball coach there. Jesse came out of the program at Fork Union Military Academy. He said Jesse was by the far the best athlete he has seen come out of the basketball prep program in his many years of coaching there. I too enjoyed watching him play. I think he tried out for the Jets and almost made the team as a wide receiver. Definately a professional caliber athlete.

Correct, he tried out for the Jets as a free agent at WR, but a hand injury at camp took him out of contention.

Many people forget that he had offers to play football at Tennesse, Alabama and UVA after playing WR/DB at George Wythe. He was ranked the #10 player form Virginia in the class of 2002 (Marcus Vick was #1).

In my opinion the best all around athlete (football, basketball, and others) the City has ever put out is Jesse.
There are many greats to come from the City, but Jesse is the kind of guy that would excel at tennis, track, baseball if he had concentrated on those sports. He just had that ability. He had a ACC/SEC body.

The guy earlier was saying the FUMA coach said he was the best all around, well look who has come outta FUMA. High praise, but i'm not surprised. I've watched Jesse since his soph. year at Whyth. Wow, what a team Whyth had in the early 2000s. There only problem was they kept running into JJ Reddick.

Good lord, you'd think with all the George Wythe games I've seen, i'd know how to spell it. ha ha, anyway sorry. Just stating I recognize my spelling blunder.

Yea Jesse is one of the best all around athletes the City has had but Im not even sure he was the best at his school. If I had to choose the best all around athlete it would probably be Tyree Evans, everyone knows what he can do on the basketball court but he was also a excellent wr who ran a 4.4 and had a 38 inch vertical and he had offers from Miami, Flordia State and other big schools in football, and the rest is history. But those Wythe teams from 99-2004 were some of the best teams Ive ever seen, but for some reason they could never get over the hump. In 99 they lost in the state semifinal on a 50 ft buzzer beater shot, 01 lost in the semifinal to Salem John Gilchrist(Maryland), 02 lost to JJ Reddick, 03 and 04 lost in the quaterfinal. That 02 team had Jesse, Taj Henley (linebacker for Ohio U.), Tyree Evans (Kent St.), Shawn Taggart (Memphis) and other players who have played lower level bball.
