Rob is doing pretty well. His team is one of the best in Central Ohio and asserting itself as the most dominant team in the Ohio Capital Conference (OCC). The Lincoln Lions have 2 other D1-calibre guards in 5'6 Stevie Taylor (he's #150 in the 2011 Rivals150), and senior transfer Anthony Jackson, both of whom have a number of D1 offers. Together they make up Lincoln's 'Big Three'.

Gahanna started off 4-0 (3-0 in the OCC) rolling to relatively easy wins before taking on a similarly undefeated OCC team in 5-0 Pickerington North, who they also put away on December 22. The Lincoln Lions are currently playing in the Youth Sports Foundation Boys Basketball Tournament. The Lions played previously undefeated 5-0 Cleveland Heights in the first round of the tournament this past Monday the 28th. Lincoln once again came out on top 61-56 behind the strength of Rob Brandenberg's "monster first-half". Here's what HighMajorScoop.com had to say about the game and Brandenberg:

Game 2: Cleveland Heights vs. Gahanna Lincoln

Gahanna Lincoln took control of the visiting Tigers from Cleveland Heights early on in the first half of the game, leading 29-15 at the half. Heights looked flat, stagnant and played as poor as we have ever seen in the 4 years that Barry Egan has been at the helm. Part of that might have been to the monster first half that 6-foot-2, 2010, SG, Rob Brandenberg (VCU) put on for Gahanna, as he knocked down pull-up deep balls in transition, tore down Dennis Rodman-like rebounds and even slammed home a 2-handed dunkshot.Guards Anthony Jackson (2010) and Stevie Taylor (2011) added to the wreckage chipping in for 16 points together.

The 3-headed monster led Gahanna to victory with Stevie Taylor scoring 24, Anthony Jackson with 13, and Brandenberg with 12 points and 5 boards. The 3 combined for 7 three-pointers in the game.

The Lions continue on in the tournament with a game today as Lincoln hosts Huber Heights Wayne at 5 p.m. this afternoon.

Keep up the great work Rob! :)

10 points for VCUBeatsDuke.

Here's the recap from December 22nd game against Pickerington North (the first undefeated team they played). Gahanna's previously 5-0 OCC-rival Pickerington North was dominated from start to end in a 78-51 triumph for the Lincoln Lions. Rob Brandenberg led all scorers with 23 points, 3 boards, and 2 assists. Anthony Jackson added 19, and Stevie Taylor added 11 points, 5 assists, and 3 boards. Here are some quotes from the article:

Gahanna Lincoln’s three-guard set of silky-smooth Stevie Taylor, human highlight-reel Rob Brandenberg, and the powerful Anthony Jackson will chew opponents up in a bevy of ways. Whether it’s with the drive-and-kick, slashing through the lane, or setting the opponent up for a text-book back-door these three Lions are a lot more than a memorable nickname.

Brandenberg was high-point man with 23 along with three rebounds and two assists. The Virginia Commonwealth signee was very aggressive last night, which is a good sign for those backing the Lions.

The 6-foot-2 Brandenberg got to the hoop with ease and finished near the rim along with using his slashing ability to get into the paint and score. The senior knocked down five triples in the game including a four-point play at the end of the third quarter. He brought the crowd to its feet in the first quarter with a transition two-handed dunk-shot.

This looks like a team that can have any one of the Big Three go off in a given night. The article dubs them the 'Triple Threat'. Brandenberg is a guy who has a lot of athleticism, and is very tough when he gets aggressive. Nice to see he has a good shooting touch with 5 3's in that game.

Shaka said we got a big-time sleeper, and the results seem to be bearing that out. Rob and Reco should be a very solid freshman class for us next year.

Rob sounds like the real deal - thanks for the scoop DB.

I know it is WAY to early to ask this question...but what in the world do we do with Rob next year? He has clear sailing for his position in 2 years...but 2010-2011 he has some tough guys in front of him for playing time...

He's a freshman, I wouldn't expect him to come in and get big minutes regardless of who we have in place already! Look at Maynor as a freshman, probably should have gotten more minutes especially later in the year, but if a guy like him doesn't come in and take a big chunk of time right off the bat then I really don't expect to see too many guys come in and do that!

Maynor was a case of Capel being way too loyal to Alex Harper. Everyone in the Stu except Capel could see that Maynor should have starting instead of Harper. That said VCU4LIFE is right, I would expect that Rob will have to bide his time in the backcourt just like Theus, Daniels, and Grayson are doing right now. They'll get their chances to run the show when Rozzell, Nixon, and J-Rod graduate. Same goes for Brandenberg...he'll wait for his time to run the show.

That said, if a frosh really has game, he's gonna get playing time regardless. Capel's not behind the bench anymore. See Bradford Burgess as an example of that. Whether Brandenberg has that kind of game or not remains to be seen, but the vast majority of freshman don't come in and contribute like Burgess did right away.

Yet again, this afternoon's showdown is another battle of unbeaten teams. Apparently Lincoln's win over Cleveland Heights on Monday was significant as they were ranked #9 in the Cleveland metro area by the Cleveland Plain-Dealer's Top 25.

The game is being hyped as one of the state's best as Lincoln (6-0) and Huber Heights Wayne (7-0) matchup in a battle of superior guard play. Wayne's top player is junior guard Travis Trice who along with Stevie Taylor is considered one of the top junior guards in the state. Trice is averaging 25.6 points a game. Their team also features junior forward Markus Crider, who boasts half a dozen D1 offers including one from Wisconsin.

The game will be a test for Brandenberg and Lincoln as they don't start a player over 6'4 on the team. The game tips off today at 5 p.m.

You didnt have to be at the Stu to see that!

Good Job Rob! Keep up the grades!! :D

It was the Stevie Taylor and Rob Brandenberg show as Gahanna Lincoln won the Youth Sports Foundation tournament knocking off Huber Heights Wayne in a battle of previously unbeatens, 74-71. Rob Brandenberg had 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists while Stevie Taylor hit 5 triples and finished with 24 points, 9 boards and an assist.

Wayne went up 23-16 in the first quarter but Gahanna roared back with a 25-13 2nd quarter to get back into the game.

Gahanna Lincoln is fast asserting itself as one of the top teams in Ohio and Brandenberg is playing as well as ever.

Check out columbuscityleague.com to see rob and Gahanna in action!

This site is great, it has video highlights of all the games. Check out the game 'Gahanna vs. Pickerington North'. Rob looks darn good in that highlight reel. He's athletic and can shoot the 3 (even made a 4-point play).
