Rob Brandenberg cuts down a piece of the net after helping lead Gahanna Lincoln to the Ohio Capital Conference championship with an 84-56 win over Pickerington North last night

Gahanna (14-0) compensates for a lack of height in its four-guard starting lineup with outstanding shooting.

The Lions entered the week shooting 58.5 percent from the field, including 45 percent (85 of 189) from three-point range. Their top three-point shooters are Stevie Taylor (29 of 59, 49.2 percent), Rob Brandenberg (18 of 34, 52.9) and Anthony Jackson (16 of 27, 59.3).

"We've got some guys who can flat-out shoot it, but the reason so many guys have those high percentages is that the majority of our players are very complete in terms of passing and driving and it allows their teammates to shoot it in rhythm," coach Tony Staib said. "That versatility makes us a lot tougher to defend."

Scoring 150 points in two games wasn't bad for a week's work.

Playing on the road at Lancaster Jan. 26, Gahanna ripped the Golden Lions 90-44, helped by a 33-9 first period.

Stevie Taylor had 15 points and Sam Bott 12 among the 12 scorers.

The outcome Jan. 29 at Pickerington Central was another lopsided affair, with the Lions winning 60-37 to remain undefeated at 15-0 (10-0 OCC Ohio).

Rob Brandenberg netted 15 points, Anthony Jackson 14 and Taylor 12.

Lincoln was to host Pickerington North Tuesday, Feb. 2, then plays at Grove City Friday, Feb. 5 (7:30 p.m.).

Congrats to Rob Brandenberg and the Gahanna Lions! They are now 16-0 and 11-0 in the Ohio Capital Conference.

I went to high school in Columbus at what is now Eastmoor Academy. It's a kick to hear all those names of high schools in the area with each of your updates on Rob. He sounds like a real keeper. His coach sounds as if he has a better understanding of the game than most HS coaches so I'm thinking that Rob is not only talented but fundamentally sound as well.

Funny thing, even back in the day when I was there Gahanna Lincoln, while not a big school, was always a basketball powerhouse. Tradition, I guess.
