This long and athletic guard plays with great energy. He sprints the lane in transition and can get to the rim and finish before the defense can set. Brandenberg does a good job of making scoring plays of the dribble in the half court and can finish with good touch and body control. He is also athletic enough to get the ball in the hole with some impressive athletic finishes. He is streaky but respectable from behind the arc and can finish above the rim off the vertical with a clear path. Brandenberg also puts forth excellent effort on the offensive glass. Brandenberg needs to add strength but has great upside and could be a player on the rise in the state of Ohio.

Ok don't kill the messager here but I just saw this prospect show up on scout.com. He has us listed as "high" interest along with 2 other schools. Says we offered. I know we need big men next year but our Coaches must see a star on the rise.

When first seeing this, my first reaction was that it concerned John Brandenburg, the 6-11, 241-pounder who recently left the U.Va. program due to lack of court time. Out of the St. Louis area, Brandenburg was a high-touted recruit by the previous, ill-fated Wahoo coaching regime.

J. Brandenburg, with two years eligibility to offer, might be a nice snag for a mid-tier program - probably in a more westerly locale.

From the VCU vantage point, a more realistic prospect might be Matt Gorski (6-10, 220, rising junior) at Cosby High in Chesterfield County. Last winter, VCU assistants attended several Cosby games to eyeball Gorski and also versatile 6-3 swingman David Robinson (rising senior).

Cosby (named after the country road that meanders by the campus, not the comedian) is coached by Ron Carr, a former Lynchburg College head coach.

PS: Cosby is a favorite to win the Group AAA girls title this winter. The Titans are led by powerful 6-1 Jazmin Pitts, a senior-to-be who commited with Virginia while still a freshman. Two other seniors (about 5-9), Andrea Bertrand and Becca (the magic) Wann, might be VCU prospects.

I think he has been listed for a while on rivals, but the "high interest" indication is pretty interesting. I think that indicates his level of interest and it says we haven't offered to him yet. So not sure what to make off it.

Scout.com states we offered. I read that Brandenberg had a great week out in Vegas last week. Maybe we offered him out there. Anyone know if our staff was there?

I know Shaka and Ellis were there for Villa 7 last week. I'm sure others were around too.

You're right, guess I misread the link using my cell phone.
