Players Roosevelt Wheeler transferring to East Tennessee State

I’m saying last year it wouldn’t have mattered as we would have rolled on sheer talent and shooting as we made the final with inconsistent offense. I absolutely do want a productive bigs to open up the shooters. But you are upset we went for Reid and set our sights high. It would have mattered if Reid panned out or the German stays or if Ashworth came too. Nevermind we were missing parts of our roster for months. Odom got the shaft in multiple ways with Reid taking the money, Ashworth picking Creighton, and a player bailing that would have opened the floor up. Plus there no way he could have anticipated Fermin playing so poor and Rose not contributing at all.
Lots to respectfully disagree with here.

I agree with one thing. It definitely would have mattered if Reid had come.

The German could not have been counted on to make a significant impact.

Ashworth was not coming here.

Did he expect Fermin to play poorly? Heck no. He’s thankful that Fermin played as well as he did. Sure, he disappeared for most of the conference season, but he was a big surprise during the OOC season. Thankfully, he seemed to find it again during the NIT, so there is some hope for an improved Fermin next season.

And sure he could have anticipated Wheeler not being able to contribute based on his numbers on a historically bad Louisville team.

You guys should like of some of @duncanlamb's post. I know I love a few. Just because his granny taught special education there, where probably most of the MBB team got taught remedial. He visited her so he was on the campus a lot and saw things. He is a VCU fan first. And Mason sucks.

I think VCU Baseball is alive and well! Glad to see. And I'm sure our tennis game is great!

I'll give you an one... NAIA player of the year, Isaiah Malone, out of grace college..

6'10 255

Look at those shooting splits..look the physical nature of his game!!

Finalist for the Bevo Francis award for best small college player..D2 and lower...

Why not go after him???!!!

So, you know for sure we're not going after him?

K

Really????

If Hall was such a loser then why did Odom offer him last year???
.👇

I didn't see this fan base have a problem in response to the offer at the time

It's obvious Mason could not afford to him...but maybe, given that VCU is the flag ship, went after Hall harder instead chasing the pipe dream "Efton Reid"...the Rams would have been in the NCAA instead NIT..I doubt he would have left any VCU during a tournament run...

the point is this coaching could have acquired one of at least a dozen mid major bigs last year for a fraction of Rose or Reid..but they hyperfocused on name players and lost out..

They seem to be doing again this year..

He quit on his team. fudge him, I wouldn't want a selfish loser like him on my team.

Hall shut himself down as soon as he figured Mason had no chance at a double bye, and contributed absolutely nothing in a game against St. Joe's that Mason honestly should have won. He decided in late February that his season was over and put himself ahead of his team, and they suffered for it. Hall was probably close to all-conference first team if he didn't do that (top 5 in scoring and rebounding).

The fact that we reached out to him last year is completely irrelevant because the circumstances would have been very different.

No. It isn't.

Think about it this way...

VCU had the double bye until they blew the last 3 games of the reason.

A big part of that 3 game slid is that 3 opponents shut down our inside game. Fermin got pushed around, turned the ball over on the give and go's. Lawal, outside of alley oop dunks got pushed around...Wheeler, our highly touted widebody, was just an enforcer good for 5 fouls.

For argument sake, Let's say the staff moved from Efton Reid and pursued Hall, persuaded him to make an official VCU after the Mason. More than likely, VCU acquires Hall and inserts 18 ppg 9 rebound post play who can also stretch the floor into lineup with Shulga, Jackson, Bairstow, and Kuany.

Worst case scenario..even if we are still in #4 position 3 games before the end of the season, we don't lose 3 straight games at the end of the season with a consistent offensive post threat like hall in the lineup..he most definitely doesn't Bail on vcu because we would have the double bye and probably make the NCAA's.

You can say the same thing for at least 6 other mid major bigs in the A10 that we elected not to pursue and missed out on because we took a really bad "name" big and elected to wait for a pipe dream.

Not really...losing polite, Malik Henry, Devin Dinkins and Hall.. Hall and Kelly get replaced by Jalen Haynes, Giovanni Emejuru upfront..Darius Maddox stays and they retain their all-freshman team point guard..they probably better than this last year.

Uncle Dunky, if you want to preserve any shred of goodwill here for the rest of the offseason, please refrain from posting this "Fairfax Rose" propaganda in every thread. It will be met with pure animus here. I say this as a friend.
