Players Roosevelt Wheeler transferring to East Tennessee State

Unfortunately, ETSU just picked up Davion Bradford out of New Mexico State. 7 foot, 270 lbs. He did not play for NM last year for some reason but did play about 15 mpg over 85 total games for KSU and WF and started 42 of those games.
But his point total dropped each year for some reason from 7 ppg as a freshman at KSU to 2.5 ppg as a junior at WF. Then did not play at New Mexico .....may have been a waiver issue or something (was his 2nd transfer).
And now he is at ETSU and will likely compete for time with Wheeler.

Oof, Rose got DeLoach'd.

Recent history (at least with MR) has shown big guys that transfer out of VCU many times do better at their new destination. I wouldn't count Rose out yet.

Justin Toyo played better after leaving Shaka Smart's VCU rams. Antavious Simmons played better after leaving Shaka Smart's VCU rams. Michael Gilmore played better after leaving Shaka Smart's VCU rams. Terry Larrier played better after leaving Shaka Smart's VCU rams. Heck, even Reco McCarter played better after leaving Shaka Smart's VCU rams.

So, players who transfer and then gain more experience as they grow and develop at their transfer schools usually do better than when they were younger and less experienced while at VCU before transferring.
It's not rocket science, nor is it coach specific.

Every thing you say is true. Another truth is that system/ style of play also impacts player performance/productivity

So did quite a few others, including one of Odoms guys who helped sink UVA in the dance. Jamir at FSU, and a couple more. We all remember Marc Jackson who went to Temple and then off to the NBA.

As someone stated, let’s not count Rose out just yet. He played for a dumpster fire, at the Louisville program reeling from a scandal, and never really fit in here. Let’s hope he does well.

I am from Richmond, as such I am rooting for him.

I disagree. We have historically favored small ball teams, and our bigs usually ride the bench for most of there first year, even longer in some cases. I used MR for recency sake, but you are correct with SS doing it as well. I dont think any of the bigs that blossomed after transferring out of VCU would have done as well at VCU if they stayed. This is a rhetorical statement as there is no way to know for certain. On the flip side, I think our guards and smaller bigs like Graham and Vince do wayyyyy better at VCU than anywhere else.

If you want to be on a winning team you have to have a lot of talented players around you. You are always going to have to compete for playing time. No one signs one big and calls it quits on recruiting.

Nor is it really a thing. Before NIL most players transferred due to lack of playing time (and coaching changes). So naturally if they don't get significant playing time here as a freshman/sophomore and they had to sit out a year and then get minutes as a junior/senior they'll produce more than they did here. Not sure what point anybody is trying to make on this.

We're not making any points. We just want our program to be the best it can be. So we discuss and have diatribes. I got to cut grass this afternoon and I'm not looking forward to it as much as I am the upcoming season!
