Please tell me you're not serious about that statement. That is an outright homer statement if ever I heard one. We are probably a top 4 team next year with all our starters. I won't go any further than that.

haha our bench starting 5 would look like this

JUCO
Rozz or Nix
TJ
KP
Saintil

not a lot of offense there my friend. I couldnt see us scoring more than 55 a game. We would hold them to 50 though.

So far I have been impressed with the way Coach Smart has recruited and put together his staff. If he is equally as good at managing games and using the bench we should be in great shape. We have come a long way from last year when we were dressing 8 scholarship players for most of the league schedule.

Theus / Rozzell
Gavin / Daniels / Nixon
Burgess / T.J.
Saintil / Ndongo
Larry / KP

With Skeen

Theus / Rozzell
Gavin / Daniels / Nixon
Burgess / T.J.
Skeen / Saintil / Ndongo
Larry / KP

We are pretty deep at every position except for point guard. If Theus shooting is as good as advertised, and can pass the ball pretty well I think we will easily be a top 3 team, not sure that anyone other than Mason and ODU could finish ahead of us. I think a lot of people are forgetting about Skeen, he'll be here for CAA play so we'll see how much a difference he makes. If we can get average production from the point position the I think we will be fine.

Your starting 5 has a freshman who has never played college ball and two other players in Gavin and Skeen who haven't played college ball in over a year (not to mention Skeen won't be eligible until mid-dec). I don't see this a feasible or a good idea.

Rozell/theus
Rozell/Nixon/Gavin-Daniels
Burgess/Nixon-Kiril
TJ/Santil/Ndongo/Skeen
Sanders/Kiril

I think we will see a number of our players playing several positions except perhaps Sanders and TJ. I am really high on TJ....even last year when everyone seem centered on Ndongo. If TJ works on his shot this summer he could be one of our top players and an excellent give and go man for Sanders on the inside.

I still think there are many, many questions about Ndongo. He hasn't played in over two years and had very little playing time before that. Personally, while I like the guy, I just don't see him as being much more than a role player at this stage of the game.

Kiril showed a lot of improvement last year from his first year at VCU. I hope that continues as both he and Sanders would be a power pair on the floor together.

A year of rust tends to make players foul prone for some reason so we will have to see how Gavin pans out as well as Skeen. Skeen being an inside guy could build fouls quickly and be in and out of the line up. But hopefully both Gavin and Skeen will have shaken off the rust by early to mid-feb, just in time for the tournament.

I'm most worried about whether our guards can "create" their own shots....something very lacking this past season except for Eric. We have shooters but we just can't shoot from beyond the 3 point line. We need some of our guards to be able to drive and or hit the short/mid-range jumper to keep the opposition honest. I think Nixon has shown flashes of being able to drive...and drive well....but he needs to be able to hit the shot or pass it back out or dish it inside to Larry.

But without Eric this coming season, comes a lot of opportunities for players to really step it up and show their game

ARE YOU SERIOUS? First of all, T.J. is not a power forward. Secondly if you are going to say that Skeen and Gavin haven't played in over a year, when has Rozzell ever played the point. Thirdly, how can you have Gavin and Daniels behind Nixon? I see both of them in front of Nixon. You really have Kiril at the 3 spot if needed? If anyone is moving to the 3 it's Ndongo, Kiril is slow as heck.

1st part of the season the seniors should start (KP & TJ)

after winter break, may the best man get the job

LOL T.J. has played PF most of his career. he is capable of holding his own on defense. Rozzell played the point plenty of times when it was him and Joey on the floor. Joey would play the SG role and Brandon would set up the offense.

I stand behind what I said, yes we have a young team, but the rest of the CAA does not impress me very much either. I follow it just as close as any of you. I would be happy in another thread to go through each team alphabetically in the CAA and compare their rotation to VCU, starting with those fightin Blue Hens. I smell wins already....

This conference has yet to handle our press effectively, and it will only get worse now that we're doing it more. Teams cannot match up with VCU athletically and provided Karl Hess does not show up, nobody is coming to the Stu and winning next year. If we steal a few on the road (winning at mason and odu will be hard) we'll be right near the top.

Coach Smart will develop Larry more than Coach Greed did and our offensive sets will be crisper when you consider we now have an inside force combined with a peremiter loaded with shooters and slashers.

Plus the guys are playing with a chip on their shoulder because they feel (rightly or wrongly) their former coach betrayed them and everyone is doubting their ability to succeed without the Dagger.

I may drink...what flavor do you have?

TJ has never been and will never be more than a 6 PPG, 3 RPG game guy. He's a role player, not a starter. Nothing wrong with that - - he cracks me up out there cuz he is somewhat spastic and jerky in his motions.

I don't see Rozzell starting. I know some of you do, but other than the fact that he is a Jr. why else would he start over the other guards? I get nervous when he has the ball in the half court and he hasn't exhibited ball handling abilities at all, regardless of the fact that he played a game at PG in an office game in the Caribbean.

we'll see what happens.

I think Theus if capable will start right away. I haven't seen Gavin play yet, so I'm not willing to give him the spot over Rozell. It seemed to me that Rozell was being a lot more aggressive towards the end of the year, he was having trouble finishing though. I think TJ will start. He will be the floor leader next year. He is probably our best hustle guy with Joey gone. He might not be starting by the end of the year, but I can still see him pushing and leading the team coming off the bench.
