Your starting 5 has a freshman who has never played college ball and two other players in Gavin and Skeen who haven't played college ball in over a year (not to mention Skeen won't be eligible until mid-dec). I don't see this a feasible or a good idea.
Rozell/theus
Rozell/Nixon/Gavin-Daniels
Burgess/Nixon-Kiril
TJ/Santil/Ndongo/Skeen
Sanders/Kiril
I think we will see a number of our players playing several positions except perhaps Sanders and TJ. I am really high on TJ....even last year when everyone seem centered on Ndongo. If TJ works on his shot this summer he could be one of our top players and an excellent give and go man for Sanders on the inside.
I still think there are many, many questions about Ndongo. He hasn't played in over two years and had very little playing time before that. Personally, while I like the guy, I just don't see him as being much more than a role player at this stage of the game.
Kiril showed a lot of improvement last year from his first year at VCU. I hope that continues as both he and Sanders would be a power pair on the floor together.
A year of rust tends to make players foul prone for some reason so we will have to see how Gavin pans out as well as Skeen. Skeen being an inside guy could build fouls quickly and be in and out of the line up. But hopefully both Gavin and Skeen will have shaken off the rust by early to mid-feb, just in time for the tournament.
I'm most worried about whether our guards can "create" their own shots....something very lacking this past season except for Eric. We have shooters but we just can't shoot from beyond the 3 point line. We need some of our guards to be able to drive and or hit the short/mid-range jumper to keep the opposition honest. I think Nixon has shown flashes of being able to drive...and drive well....but he needs to be able to hit the shot or pass it back out or dish it inside to Larry.
But without Eric this coming season, comes a lot of opportunities for players to really step it up and show their game
NickGeorge21VCU said:ARE YOU SERIOUS? First of all, T.J. is not a power forward. Secondly if you are going to say that Skeen and Gavin haven't played in over a year, when has Rozzell ever played the point. Thirdly, how can you have Gavin and Daniels behind Nixon? I see both of them in front of Nixon. You really have Kiril at the 3 spot if needed? If anyone is moving to the 3 it's Ndongo, Kiril is slow as heck.

I would be happy in another thread to go through each team alphabetically in the CAA and compare their rotation to VCU, starting with those fightin Blue Hens. I smell wins already....
This conference has yet to handle our press effectively, and it will only get worse now that we're doing it more. Teams cannot match up with VCU athletically and provided Karl Hess does not show up, nobody is coming to the Stu and winning next year. If we steal a few on the road (winning at mason and odu will be hard) we'll be right near the top.
Coach Smart will develop Larry more than Coach Greed did and our offensive sets will be crisper when you consider we now have an inside force combined with a peremiter loaded with shooters and slashers.
Plus the guys are playing with a chip on their shoulder because they feel (rightly or wrongly) their former coach betrayed them and everyone is doubting their ability to succeed without the Dagger.

I may drink...what flavor do you have?
