Rowdy Roll Call?

This small group of "cliquey people" as you call them is who is doing the leg work. If their is a problem, or you want it done differently then come do your own leg work, or help out with theirs!

What does SRAF do? SRAF is the run by the administration right? This is them trying to squeeze out rowdy rams? What makes you think SRAF can do it right?

Really? I haven't seen it. Other than starting a facebook group I haven't seen much. Well for one, the SRAF had over 150 members last time I checked. The Rowdies are probably a dozen in number...and no I don't count giving out t-shirts for free to people as making them Rowdy Rams. I know Pav tried to help organizing them at times, I think that's the kind of leadership we need for the Rowdies to succeed. As of right now they are just like regular fans who wear a different shirt. Communication would go a long way to improving things. For what it's worth I'm not a student. I'm just giving some honest feedback because I think they can be better. I appreciate all of their efforts to this point. They are definitely impassioned fans of VCU basketball,

maybe start by, uh, i dunno, getting rid of the whole homoerotic wrestler schtick. (not that there's anything wrong with that).

don't get me wrong, fishnets have served a great purpose for crime-avenging superheroines and street hookers for many years, but maybe something a little more innovative for a basketball game?

you know, just sayin'.

The Rowdy rams are sort of their own small hardcore group of dedicated fans. I don't think they reach out much to the not-so-die-hard-regular fans/students that attend the games. Usually they're always out in the front lines in the same place, which is their right to be there from what was said before. Usually that section is the one that makes the most noise. This is only my opinion, but I feel that if they wanted to get everyone involved, they would have their people stationed at the front of each of the student sections and get the other sections involved. There isn't that much communication at all with them, so really all they are at this point is an isolated group of die-hard fans. And that incident with the "Black-Out" this season when there was internal arguing and a release of way too many fb messages of conflict deterred a lot of regular fans. I'm hoping we get an actual RamFan base organized for the next season with a lot better communication to the actual fans, cause which is stronger?: A small group of people, or a united group of 7000?

Dude SRAF is about bringing in money for the athletics department while giving benefits to the students for contributing. You have SRAF take over the Rowdy Rams and you see what happens. I agree leadership isn't completely there but I don't see anyone else stepping up. heck, I'd be willing to meet with people about it. Once again about communication the facebook group is always faster. Planning this year was harder especcially with things like the black out that happened a couple of days before the game. As far as regular fans I have to definitely disagree. You see about 100+ students fans standing all game every game. That is not a normal fan! No basketball fan is expected to stand/jump/yell/stomp/etc a entire game but we do. oh and yes the free shirt thing needs work because some do obviously join just for a shirt. We had a plan for something to handle that last year but it didn't happen.

Honestly I think I'm done with this thread. Most are just bashing anyway except for like DB and Ramband. Way to bring a little CAAZONE to vcuramnation. If the Rowdies do die I hope those people complaining are happy. I'm sure the Rowdies dying will help SC's atmosphere

oh and VCU FAN we have tried spreading out. We tried it multiple times and all it does is piss off people. Whats the use of spreading out if it just weakens the group? We can't make people stand up and cheer. Our alumni have the right to relax and watch the game without being made to stand. Our West Side is just quiet and we can't do anything about that. We tried to send people over to the West Side and trust me when I say it doesn't work. oh and someone earlier said we should be in different sections rather than in the front row. First we stand out there for 4 hours+ so yes we deserve those seats. Second putting a rowdie leader in each section only isolates them. Put one in the West Side and that rowdie will be chanting all alone. heck put one in certain parts of the East Side and the person will still be alone.

I have to agree with this dude somewhat. I am not a rowdy ram (nor do I really want to be one), but I generally start yelling even before the rowdy rams do. I stomp, yell, act like a lunatic (not a rowdy ram lunatic) and cheer for my rams. But what this guy is sayin is true...people in other sections don't stand up and don't cheer. With the exception of maybe the ODU game. Spreading out does nothing, people just yell sit down at you when you stand up in the front. This actually happened to me my very first ram game as a student. I was on the east side to the right facing the goal and was standing up with 3 or 4 friends and people were like sit down I can't see.

But lets not hate on the rowdies too much, some in the group are a little difference (those fishnets were pretty bad) but they are passionate and they actually cheer, unlike certain other sections.

All the group needs is organization and more meetings...fix that issue, and the group could possibly return to its glory days.

Its not gonna be a quick fix, its gotta to be the real deal and if that means rebuilding it from the ground up...so be it. ;)

I disagree. Organization and meetings would be a start... however gaining recognition from both the SGA and fellow students as a respected, contributing student organization is imperative. You need the SGA's recognition for funding (bus trips, props, handouts, etc.).

However more important than the SGA's recognition is gaining the respect of fellow students. Honestly, the assessments made by other posters isn't that far off point. It pains me to say it, but currently the rowdy rams are viewed as a clique of misfits that still giggle and point at some kid whose last name is boney.

  • Get organized (Meetings, executive board, budget, chant/heckel sheets, website)
  • Drop the clique
  • Make membership information readily available and actually recruit students to join, rather than waiting for them to come to you. I'm not just talking about the SGA fair, but during games hand out fliers explaining who you are, what you do, and what the students will gain from joining.
These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. I'm sure there are lots of other things you guys can do, but these would be a start.

We had Glory Days?

One major problem with the Rowdy Rams was always that the people with the passion to plan meetings, get SGA funding and organize were the hardcore, crazy students. Unfortunately our passion was not as infectious as we had hoped, and while we succeeded in recruiting a small number of passionate fans to take our place when we graduated, we were never particularly successful at getting the general student fan base involved (though our first general interest meetings we did manage to get 100 people to come, we never were able to sustain that organization). Unfortunately it didn't take long for the Rowdy Rams to become the "uncool" thing to do.

With VCU's counter-cultural nature I fear that it will always be difficult to get a large group of organized fans, all wearing the same shirt, with organized cheers. However, one thing all of our fans can agree on, is that we love the Rams (some are just more vocal about it than others).

I have no idea how to join/if I can join.

That should tell you something.

Also a problem, not to mention that no one is really sure if there actually is a Rowdy Rams to join. :?
