Win against W & M will put us in the top 25 RAMS!

wasnt expecting that high of a bump..now we need to maintain

Our next 2 opponents are #24 William and Mary on the road and #17 Richmond at home. We can get a big bump up if we win these two. That said, remember the RPI still means very little at this point of the game.

too true...the sad reality of CAA intraleague play will become all too apparent (especially if we drop a few)

as banana says

Just Win

Last year we were 14-4 in CAA play and ended up with an RPI in the 50s or 60s (as i recall). . . and that was with no really good OOC wins. We have better wins so far this season and if we can beat both W&M and UR (my hunch is we split) and go 14-4 in the CAA this season one would think our RPI would be higher than last year...maybe high 30s/low 40s. I do think we pretty much need to win all the rest of our OOC games to keep at large hopes alive going into CAA play. Right now only W&M and VCU can say that they COULD be on the path to an at-large bid.

That's a statement I thought I would never hear re W&M! Tony Shaver is a heck of a coach!

Well...true, but I'm still not sold on them. This is basically the same team as last year. Sure, playing together gives you some comfort on the floor, but I can't see how they improved that much in a year. It is early and I think it is time for someone to take them down a notch. I think I know just the team.... ;)

Let's just win the CAA Tourney again.

realtimerpi has us at 33 w a SOS at 102, quality wins listed vs Nevada and Rhode Island. W&M is 24, Rich 17 so with those two W's top 25 is a lock for the moment. I still say the win vs Oklahoma will look better in a month or two than it does at the moment.

Hopefull we can draw a good braket busters match up and boost our RPI with a win.

I think on a talent level there shouldn't be a team left on our schedule we shouldn't beat. This is sports however and whether or not we play to our potential is another story (everyone's gonna have a bad night here and there). Finishing our non-conference strong is a good start towards landing that solid Bracket Buster matchup.

I agree. I think we will slip up a bit and lose 2-3 more times this season but still be in great shape for an at large bid (since no one else in the CAA will be an at-large contender).

We win championships...its just what we do

interesting note realtimerpi which also "projects" games has us finishing 22-5 with all 4 of the losses remaining being by 1 pt. @W&M, @GMU, @JMU, @ODU. I assume in some respect that is because of our loss at Western Michigan so it assumes we will continue to play significantly worse on the road than at home. we havent played a good road game yet, but no better time to start than Sat.

I think you guys DO actually have a legit at-large shot right now. You've rebounded much better than I expected you too after the Western Michigan loss, you've got some quality wins over a BCS team, a borderline tourney team in Nevada and a solid A-10 team in Rhode Island.

The one you really need to win in order to get legit consideration for an at-large is at Tulane. You need a good road win. You only have 3 road games on your OOC schedule this year. You lost one by 17 to a not so great team, you won the other against a decent but not that impressive Hampton team and you struggled at times in that game, lets be honest. So a GOOD road win against Tulane will really help your profile and is a necessity in order to be considered for an at-large.

Because lets face it, if you only have 3 OOC road games and you lose two of them to Tulane and Western Michigan, you are not going to get an at-large.....period.

Beating Richmond, of course, would help alot as well. But take my word for it, that is easier said than done because they are a darn good team. Not because they beat ODU, but because they beat Missouri and Miss St., are very disciplined and have a starting 5 as good as any in the CAA. I think Sanders is going to be the key in that game though, as he usually is. If his height and length can bother their big men inside, it becomes a very winnable game for VCU. If Sanders gets in foul trouble and doesn't stay disciplined, Richmond could pull out the road win and become another A-10 team worthy of an at-large bid.

Huge game.
