RPI up to 34

To me at this point the W&M game seems more important than Tulane game. Never I thought I'd see the day I'd say that.

W&M is a good team this year and a conference team, you can stomach a loss to them. You HAVE to have a good OOC road win and Hampton just isn't going to be good enough.

yeah Saturday is going to be very interesting and telling of how our team will fare the second half of the year. somehow W&M is one of the best teams in the conference this year and a solid road win would be great.

no reason to debate if W&M or Tulane is a bigger game to get on the road because we will just get both and make the discussion irrelevant.

interesting note realtimerpi which also "projects" games has us finishing 22-5 with all 4 of the losses remaining being by 1 pt. @W&M, @GMU, @JMU, @ODU. I assume in some respect that is because of our loss at Western Michigan so it assumes we will continue to play significantly worse on the road than at home. we havent played a good road game yet, but no better time to start than Sat.

I am both a realtimerpi and VCUramnation addict (not in that order), and check the former site regularly, even knowing how irrelevant it is at this early point in the season.

I was amused to see that before URI's loss to us was added to realtimerpi's "Gamer prediction", they were projected to finish 29-0. With our loss they are now down to 24-5. Not sure how all that high-fangled mathematical modelling works over there, but if we win the next 3 games, and OK's rpi bumps up, they may predict we will win more games than we have on the schedule.

Yeah, I like going through the RPI's, but the projections just seem crazy. At one point they had us going undefeated in the CAA, and we have won two or three games since then and they now have us losing the above mentioned road games. Aside from W&M those teams haven't been setting the world on fire over the past couple of weeks. I am not sure what they base these projections on. URI goes from being undefeated to a 5 loss team because we beat them at home by 2 points? The first thing I would do if I were making projections would not pick any team to go undefeated since that never happens.

William and Mary will be tough. We have hard fought games there. They beat us 2 years ago in the CAA. blah blah..

Guys, it is way to early to look at anything RPI related. It is based winning percentages, and this time of year one win or loss can change things greatly.

As for moving up or down opposite of what you have done, remember that the ratings are not in a vacuum. Your RPI can remain the same because you are not playing, and the teams you have played are not playing, and the teams they have played are not playing, BUT the teams around you in the rankings are playing, thus their RPI changes and their position changes relative to you.

RPI really gets things together in late December. By then one game does not have that much effect on your numbers.

Only because it is the next game. Come December 19, I bet Tulane will become the most important game!

up to 32 at game time because RI and Nevada both in the top 50!

But before that, 12/12 will be the most important game. Getting a win against the ticks would be huge.

John said it, the Richmond game will be pretty big. They have a lot of time to break us down and study our team since they haven't had a game since Wednesday's ODU game and won't til they play us on the 12th. Their fans are fully expecting to beat us, according to them they can't 'slip up' and lose the game to us.
It's not a matter of if they beat us, but by how much. I'm sure our good start has given some of them pause, but they desperately want to win the game against us after losing the last 5 in a row. We have to come out and punch 'em in the mouth at the Stu on the 12th.

Down to 51 after the loss, but on the bright sided the conference is up to 12.
