Juvonte Reddic's Scout.com profile was updated and he is now a 3-star recruit and the #35 Center in the nation.

Reco McCarter's Scout.com profile was also updated and he took a bit of a hit, dropping from the #38 SF to the #50 SF but still a 3-star recruit. It's the first time since 2007 that VCU has signed 2 consensus 3-star recruits (Scout/Rivals) when Joey Rodriguez and Ed Nixon signed on to play for the Rams. DJ Haley and Rob Brandenberg remain unranked and Toby Veal is a 2-star (he was a 3-star recruit out of high school when he committed to Colorado).

On another note former Ram target Davante Gardner out of the 757 is headed to the Big East. Read more at:

have to say, never been a huge fan of Scout.com .. wait they updated their site when was this haha ? slightly less ugly.. back to the point : most of the time i feel like they underrate ALOT of kids at least compared to Rivals/ESPN they usually have the lowest of the ratings throughout Football/basketball

anyways good stuff as always

I agree...Scout is the most stingy with their rankings, which is all the more reason to take note when they do rank a recruit highly. Let's see, the 3 star scout recruits we've nabbed so far in recent memory (not including Reddic/McCarter) are Troy Daniels, Bradford Burgess, Joey Rodriguez, and Ed Nixon. All of them have turned out or look to be very good players down the road. Of course Telep completely missed on our two best guys who are gonna be NBA players in Eric Maynor and Larry Sanders which he readily has admitted.

I just corresponded with Telep over DJ and Rob who had no stars, there is apparently a bug in their system not giving stars to anyone who does not have a position ranking. Both DJ and Rob are 2 star guys according to Telep.

so following this line of thinking...
Rob = EM
DJ = Larry Sanders

What's also noteworthy is that it seems as if Jonathan Arledge moved up and Michael Bradley dropped. I'm pretty sure Bradley was a 4 star during the fall signing period when we were recruiting him.

By the way (though I think this has been asked previously), does anyone have a handle on Reddic's legit height?

Yeah Arledge moved up from a 2-star to a 3-star (#24 C) which makes him Scout.com's highest-rated CAA recruit. He's also 11 spots higher than Juvonte. He's a very good get for Mason and VCU had also offered him. Chill, you're right about Bradley too...he was a 4 star (#16C) and slipped a couple of spots and is now a 3 star.

Interesting to note that Reddic would be the #31 PF on Rivals but their rankings only go to 30. Per Jerry Meyers, Juvonte was the first off the Rivals150 at 151, and the #30 PF is the 150th player in James Siakam. We can basically thank Siakam for bumping off Reddic from the Rivals150 as he was a fringe top-100 2011 prospect in the 2011 Rivals150 before reclassifying to 2010 and taking the 150th spot. Reddic would be the CAA's top recruit according to Rivals.

When Reddic was asked straight up how tall he was, he said 6'10. He's shorter than Quincy Miller who is 6'10, but not by much. I think he's 6'9, could be 6'10 in shoes. If you look at videos from his junior year, he definitely looks significantly shorter than he is this year. I think the 6'8 heights thrown around are from his junior year and haven't been updated. I'll go with a shade over 6'9. I'm sure he'll be listed as 6'10 when he comes in though, just like Larry was '6'11' but actually 6'10 in shoes. He played a lot bigger than that with his wingspan though.

We have to still remember that these KIDS are 17-18 they are still growing potentially!

Love the nickname "Pharaohs". Stars, bars or garters Juvonte looks like he can flat out play.

And M1ke, thanks for the walk down Mammary Lane.

I think quite a few people missed on both those guys. In fact we really cant say missed as they were both rated at their skill level at the time. Both Larry and Eric improved significantly during their careers at VCU. I remember seeing Eric play in the second tier All Star game here at Stu. He could really handle and pass but his shot was horrible and he was lacking in strength.

Larry, was simply not a very good basketball player. However, he had intangibles. I think the two stars he received were more than generous at the time. He really wasnt that good. He came in busted his hump and just like Maynor he is off to the league.

Telep wasnt the only service to rate both those guys similarly.

For any who disagree, would anyone on this board have actually rated either higher coming out of high school?
