The win, VCU's eighth consecutive overall and 21st consecutive at home, improved the Rams to 17-5, 9-1 CAA. But it was tempered by a right knee injury that the 6-9 Skeen, VCU's leading scorer and rebounder, suffered with 9:15 left in the game. He fell to the floor holding his knee after battling for position on a made free throw by Hofstra.

"The doctor is optimistic, thinks that maybe it was a strain," VCU coach Shaka Smart said. "He's in a lot of pain right now. We'll get a further diagnosis [today] and if necessary, an MRI."

VCU doesn't have long to savor its spot atop the conference. The Rams play UNC Wilmington on Saturday at the Siegel Center, the fourth game in eight days for both teams.

"It's big for what it is," Nixon said. "We've got sole possession of first place, keeping our momentum going. It's still early. First place now doesn't mean anything to where we're trying to go.

"Don't get me wrong, though. It feels good to be in first."

We all gotta hold our breathe in regards to Jamie's injury. Hopefully, good news will break this afternoon.

If it's a strain, it's not serious at all.

Rams are tougher than Bears. Apparently.
