VCU plays 2010 NCAA tournament entrant Wofford (5-6) tonight at 7:30 in the first round of the Holidays on the Hardwood Classic at the Siegel Center. The 5 p.m. game matches New Hampshire (5-5) and Cornell (2-8), one of the darlings of the 2010 NCAA tournament.
Wofford should offer a challenge to the Rams' 15-game home winning streak. Coach Mike Young returns four starters from a team that went 26-9 last year. Senior forward Noah Dahlman, the 2010 Southern Conference player of the year, is averaging 19.1 points.
Notes: Cornell, which lost four starters from last year's team that advanced to the Sweet 16, is under the direction of first-year coach Bill Courtney. Courtney joined Smart's VCU staff after Smart was hired following the 2009 season. He left after two months to become an assistant at Virginia Tech. He previously was an assistant at Virginia and George Mason.
