Ryan Odom to Become Next UVA MBB HC

Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahahahahhahahahhahaha

This is nuts. Looks like it is gonna cost $25k + $3.5k yearly for lower sideline season tickets. People are taking out balloon payment loans to watch UVA play Frostburg State in November. How are they going to enforce the "payable over five years" bit? You're signing a contract? If you die, are they coming after your estate?

Unless Duke and UNC games are going for $10k on the open market, I don't see a way for season ticket holders to get any money back.
Also puts enormous pressure on him to win a lot.

Marketing 101- When have like your worst season in a decade you shouldn’t then suggest people donating a new car for the right to buy tickets
I have no problem donating back to a school that gave me an education, nurtured me and helped me become an adult so that other kids can have the same experience. I do have a problem donating to a school so they can give a bag of cash to a basketball player because one of his handlers, or AAU coaches is whispering in the kids and college's ear that this kid is worth $1M (or even $100K). I am not going to pay a penny to support that at a school where the majority of students need loans to attend. GTFOOH. . I am very curious to see how the donors behave during this new era.

My guess is you're going to see A LOT more of what you started seeing happen around here shortly after Covid.

Fans dropping their donations to Athletics significantly, if not all together..... Fans getting rid of their season tickets & opting to go the single game route or just watching games from home or at the bar with friends.

UVA honestly better hope that Odom hits the ground running early & often at UVA. UVA better hope that Odom comes out & has UVA in the Top 25 by mid to late december & stays there all season. UVA better hope that Odom has UVA competing for a Top 4 spot in the ACC Tournament. UVA better hope that Odom has his team competitive with & occasionally upsetting the Duke's, UNC's.... to a lesser degree the Clemson's & Louisville's of the world..... because if they're expecting to be able to pull off that outrageous pricing for season tickets.... anything short of that & fans will be heading for the exits of the season ticket line faster than anything.

I know you're jokingly going over the Top on this a little bit.... obviously if someone dies they could void the contract.... unless it gets passed on to a significant other or a family member who chooses to continue with the season tickets.

But it does bring up an interesting question.... So you have to pay 25k + 3.5 k every year for season tickets for 5 years. Lets say after year 1 or year 2.... you decide to you can't or don't wanna do it anymore.... What happens? Are you gonna be held liable for that other 75-100k?

And who would they fill those seats with at games? Single game tickets that cost prob $500-$1000 depending on the opponent?

Gonna be very curious to see how that whole situation plays out.

RO era getting Boos from the Hoos already.
"They're finding out now that expensive season tickets are coming! They're just waking up, I know just what they'll do. Their mouths will hang open a minute or two, then the Hoos down in Hooville will all cry, 'Boo Hoo.'"

"It's one season ticket, Michael. How much could it cost? $25,000?"
To be fair...that is over five years so it would be around $5,000 a season. Oh, that blogger is a dork. I try to avoid clicking his links.

"Also, only one commit from a non-starter from VCU. I can only assume that Brandon Jennings returned to VCU from the portal because he couldn’t get accepted academically."

Man, they're upset.

Please. UVA people are the worst. Don't try to tell me that all of their players came in with great grades and that the admission standards aren't lower for football and basketball players. I won't believe it. The only place where high school grades matter for athletes is D3.

I mean there was that one situation we had where Mo & Jordan Burgess had to sit out for academic issues pertaining to high school... something about not enough credits or something? I don't remember the exact issue, but they both had to redshirt their first year because of it.

But it didn't prevent them from enrolling into VCU.

Then again UVAs standards are much higher than ours...... but I agree.... I'm sure they bend the rules like any other college for athletes as much as they can.
