...according to the Sporting News. I was relunctant to post this but eventually somebody would've. I think the hype is starting to get out of hand.

5. Larry Sanders, Virginia Commonwealth. As dominant as he was in March -- an average of 3.8 Blocks -- his performances against high-level competition at the LeBron James Skills Academy in July were even more encouraging.

Re: Sanders: Top 5 Centers

He must not include big, slow Danish guys, otherwise the ODU guy would be ahead of Larry.

As long as the hype doesn't get to his head I'm ok with it...but I agree the hype is setting this guy up for a 20 10 & 5 season and a top 5 pick

(It could happen :) )

Man...I hope this isn't getting to Larry's head. He's still got a ton of work to do. He did tear up the LeBron camp though. He has added a new dimension to his game that will surprise a lot of you guys this season. That said, top 5 center in college basketball? I'm not so sure about that. Most people in our conference don't even think he's the best in our conference. ;) Honestly the hype is getting pretty ridiculous. Let's hope he lives up to it and then decides he wants to be a lottery pick and not merely a first-rounder and stays for his senior year. 8-)

I'm pretty sure they do, they just can't bring themselves to saying it.

P.S. Nothing Larry does will surprise me. He has freakish talent and, despite the fans who want perfection, he was pretty consistently excellent as a Soph. We've had some guys who turned out pretty good who barely contributed in their second year.

You don't have to convince me. Larry's my boy. He's gonna do big things this year no doubt. When you have guys like Kyle Singler shocked at your ability, there's no question you are a player.

I figure Larry can go 2 ways this season

Scenario #1...Comes into the season hungry, humble, accepting of the fact that he has much more to learn, and totally aware that he is a "name" player and on the mind of NBA guys nationwide. Dominates consistantly and is a team leader. Maturely handles the loads of physical abuse he's sure to encounter.

Scenario #2...Comes into the season with an inflated sense of self and feels like he's "arrived" and hustles less. Get's loads of physical play and goes all Maynor on us (complaining and yearning for calls from the refs :D ...I love E, I'm just sayin'). Realizes he has to get his crap together and has a monstrous second half of the season and Dominates consistantly and is a team leader. Maturely handles the loads of physical abuse he's sure to encounter.

Either way...we'll all be hearing his name on Draft night (hope I'm wrong) because he's a great kid who has shown massive leaps in growth as a basketball player and teammate.
I athletic LOVE stories like Larry Sander's (we all know it, I'm not gonna re-hash it)...it's what makes NCAA sports so compelling and surprising. I also LOVE the fact that we're a non BCS team that finds itself with high caliber young men (from off the radar at times) who not only take advantage of the physical gifts bestowed upon them, but have the discipline and drive to improve those attributes all while carrying an academic schedule from a great University.....

Trust me it'll be sweeter when you see him play and not expecting him to have developed so much over the offseason.

Hopefully he doesn't come out thinking he is the black dirk Novitski or something. Hopefully it is his passing that developed

Haha he's certainly not going to be shooting 3's in games. He can hit three though. I've seen him hit 3 in a row before.

Trust me it will be more awesome if you fill me in now, what do you think the point of being on ramnation is? Find out the inside info from the people that know it lol.

I've seen him make plenty of them, but I don't want him to fall in love with the three and turn out like Renardo Dixon. He barely has an inside offensive game

My wish list for Larry is:

- A big f'ing, whip-like drop step featuring a 3 foot bank shot or a monster dunk in the face as a finish - - 65% success rate
- A revised trigger finger on the free throws that has him zoning in on 75% from the stripe - - this alone would get his average up to 15 ppg

If he does these two things he will be among the top 5 centers nationwide. I love the hype because it shows you can get press at VCU and will do more than anything to attract better talent.

He doesn't have the green light to let them go in games anyway. I doubt he ever will at VCU. In the NBA however... 8-)
