BLUF: I’ve dreamed the past few years of organizing to make a section for us older fans who still like to stand where we 1) won’t bother the fans who stay seated and 2) don’t have to sit in the student section. Me & my fellow standing olds call it the “Dougie Brooks Experience Section.”
I’m a 38-year old Alum who is a “GA Season Ticket Holder” (I just buy GA tix for most of the home games). Me and the folks I go to games with also still like to stand the entire game. We also still like to be near the band and the energy of the students. To make sure we don’t annoy people who like to sit and to not to take the best spots from students we always go to the last row in the east end. But what we really dream about is finding a section that’s still near the action where we can stand (with other folks closer to our age) that also doesn’t take seats away from the kids.
We jokingly call it The Dougie Brooks Experiment Section (For Olds Who Like to Stand). Sections 28 & 31 seem like the best options - they’re usually the same price as GA tix and usually pretty empty on game day. I know there are a few folks who like to stand near the court on the west end, and there are a few older folks (and their little kids!) who stand near us in the upper student section. But it would be pretty cool to consolidate so we can make concentrated noise, not annoy people who like to sit, and also not take seats from the students.
Is anyone interested in trying it out?
