I have been to hundreds of post game press conferences and every coach talks about wins and losses being determined, in large part ,by his team's ability to value each possession or cause the competition to turn it over. Winning coaches always talk about sharing the ball and good spacing on the court. Anyway, our inability to secure the ball against NU shows why some stats don't mean jack! On the road last night, we outrebound them, we make 15 more free throws and attempt 16 more and we commit 6 fewer fouls. But we had 15 turnovers...5 more than we caused and we lost by 11. Take care of the ball better and get a few key rebounds and we win ugly. Instead we need to turn the page and commit to the defensive end of the floor Saturday for 2 hours!

Good post. The Rams have been built on taking care of the ball this year and making the other team turn the ball over through pressure defense. Last night not only did they turn the ball over way too much but when they tried to pressure NU it bite them. Even worse they let NU pressure them back. Its happens though. We move on to Saturday now and hopefully come out strong.

Teams that press don't like playing against other teams that press. Not just us, but teams like Kentucky, Maryland, Providence, Georgia Tech and Missouri have trouble with other teams' pressure. That's part of the reason why we struggled against VMI, Tulane, and even GW going back to last season.

Good post.

It also doesn't help that there was a lid on the basket during the second half.

And what was up with driving to the basket when another person is WIDE open during fast breaks? Maybe just trying to spark something?

There was a lid on the basket in the 2nd half due in part to the law of averages because we shot 80% in the first half. The disheartening part of that evening is our player's inability to recognize that we needed to turn the D up a couple of notches in the 2nd half because the last time a team shot close to 80% for an entire game was before any of our players were born...Villanova vs Georgetown in the national championship game back in '85 or thereabouts. In the long run, our guys got a healthy serving of humble pie the other night and we, all, will find out in the coming days and weeks what kind of competitive fire is within the black and gold.

Took a lot of bad shots a had a ton of poor possessions (quick and rushed shots).
