Shaka with Memphis Coach Pastner and UGA Coach Fox...getting good air time. Several interviews. Talking about Larry, Skeen and Special K...nice pub!
RECAP: Sorry if this is a double post. I tried to post it quickly when it came on. Shaka had two interviews as the new coaches panel in Andy Katz' Corner.
Fox spoke about the cupboard not empty and he has spent his time teaching his guys how to act right.
Shaka seemed comfortable talking about how he spent April connecting with the remaining players and hiring a staff. Fox (formerly the NEvada Head Coach) made comments on coaching against Sanders and that how another year of the weight room and practice that Larry should be special. NBA length and will be in the NBA's list next year.
We want to compete for the CAA Championship against teams returning their entire or close to their entire teams (ODU and Northeastern). Re-establishing our new identiy and it would be pounding the ball inside.
Shaka at the Milk House and working the recruiting trails. Nice

I dropped my youngest son off at Shaka Smart's basketball camp this morning and Coach Smart was there. ESPNU was live last night, so I'm sure Coach Smart got in to Richmond very late and yet he was there for camp to open this morning. He shook hands with just about every kid in camp, spoke to them as a group and many of them individually. Lots of interaction. This was a very pleasant surprise after watching Coach Grant the last two years interact very little with the kids during camp. The kids loved it. The kids are even going to get a chance to beat Coach Smart in one on one games this week for prizes.

Great to hear Coach Smart would put a priority on talking with each of the kids and enaging/encouraging them for being there, especially after an apparent long day the day before. It's a good sign when folks walk-the-walk...

I wish him the best in getting next years team into a unit with chemistry. That will be a challenge given all the players, and depth at guard--hard to keep everyone motivated and happy with only one ball and 8 guards. A key will be his ability to communicate. One must want to interact with players/kids as a starting point, so his willingness to go the extra mile with campers is a good sign.

WOW, this is impressive. Frankly, more impressive than anything else I've seen or read thus far. Looks like we may really have a special person as our coach.
