IF he received a raise perhaps he is now also in the top 3 paid bb coaches in the CAA?
[Unfortunately, I'm being sarcastic, because IF we think we have a good coach and IF we think we're an on-going top mid-major program then shouldn't our coach at least be in the upper range for mid-majors? If not, we either have a coach on our hands that won't be in significant demand OR we'll be reaching for the Villa 7 rolodex....next].
We held our heads high while beating numerous A10 conf. teams this past year [I think 5?], and we think that is the way it should be [which is certainly my hope/expectation]. But did our head coach make as much as any of the coaches on those teams (we beat)?
Coaches must prove themselves, but so must programs. Both need to be market competitive before the fact, not after. We're a great mid-major program. The only thing that can stop us is ourselves.
Is going young and cheap a strategy, or the result of a void for any other effective tactic to get quality? If it is a strategy, and if Smart is good [and if we don't belly-up to the pay market bar] then Smart will probably stay through next year, maybe two more, given solid recruiting class. It will be fun to watch yet again how we respond in the next few years.
