.....this turkey is going end up more like Mack McCarthy than Grant or Capel. He needs to take a seat and learn from some of his assistants. NOW.

He doesn't even know the strengths/weaknesses of his on roster, how to cover them up, etc...

Stunning.

Get ready for a long UR run in this series...or at least until Mooney moves on. Hopefully he moves on before Reddic transfers.

Coaching didn't cause the missed shots and the drives to the basket for charges but I do question this continuous lack if effort on defense.

Everyone looks like they get out coached when your players can't make shots.

Did you see the ass whooping 3rd ranked Pitt received from Tennesse earlier today? Same situation. As another poster said in the in game thread, you take away our 3 point shot and we're nothing. It just kills me to hear that because the truth hurts.

A good coach can minimize things when the shots aren't falling. VCU can't, despite good talent. That is coaching.

Teaching proper shooting technique also is coaching, but some coaches won't stoop so low to teach and ancient art. ;)

Our starting five is hurting us.

JR is not 100%. He may know how to run the team, but his physical liability is a HUGE negative in his ability to contribute.

Veal in not an offensive threat. He is good at rebounding and defending, but not a scoring threat.

So at the beginning of games, it is if we are starting out short-handed on the offensive end. Our opponent only really need to stop 3 guys. That is why we are having such slow starts.

We fell behind by double digits in the 1st half to USF, W&M, VMI and now U of R. We can't keep playing from behind. It doesn't create situations where you can sub the new guys in as much. The starting five is what needs to be addressed if we are going to be successful.

This.

I just wish he would show some fire. Gotta get the ball to Jamie in the paint, every possession if we have to.

Oh look, it's Morrisar, who seems to have forgotten that we won 27 games last year with coach Smart.

Honestly, you all have had the rose-colored glasses on for far too long. Far, far, far too long.
Freshmen are freshmen. You don't know what you have until you really get into a game situation. It takes time to develop chemistry between players - and I mean game time, not practice time.

We lost to a good UR team. We had a slow start. We didn't quit, we didn't throw in the towel. We lost by 12. It's not like we lost by 40 to Alcorn State.

Some of you need to get a little bit of perspective.

Absolutely right. This is the THIRD straight game in which he has allowed the other team to dictate the tempo. Why the heck even have "havoc" as a marketing tool if you're only going to use it sparingly. Tonight, he didnt have our guys putting any kind of pressure on the Spiders in the first half. Seems like "havoc" only applies to our helter skelter offensive style in which three pointers and acrobatic off balance prayers in the lane reign supreme.

There are some who will NEVER criticize Smart's coaching. I've realized it's either because a)they'd run the risk of being ignored and blackballed by some associated with the program or b) because they truly believe that if we support the coach blindly he'll stay here forever and not leave for a bigger program as the last two head men have done.

Yet, if you're watching these game and still claim he's doing a fantastic job, you're simply not paying attention.

Smart appears to be a very nice man; he says all the right things, certainly. But, to me, he leaves a lot to be desired as a head basketball coach at this juncture. He sometimes gets by on the abundance of athleticism at his disposal, though when a situation arises that requires preparation, strategy, or play calling he's inferior.

You're either afraid of falling out of favor with the athletic dept or you think you can single handedly keep a head coach at VCU for a decade with your blind loyalty; which is it?

Glad you're satisfied; I hope you dont set the bar as low in your goal setting in you your personal life

you do realize smart recruited reddic? This statement doesn't even make since. Its a loss its going to happen ever season, lets move on.

Come on guys, we had a awful evening. But let's not spend the next two weeks (nor the next day, for that matter) analyzing, dissecting, critiquing, explaining, revealing, identifying, or interpreting what happen to the team and to the coach. They feel bad; we feel bad. It's not the end of the earth. It's not the first time we had an awful evening and it won't be the last time. Let's enjoy the holiday and come back fresh for our end-of-the-year tournament. There! I said it!
