He has offers from VCU, Clemson (Purnell’s regime), Central Florida, South Florida and George Mason. “It’s still VCU, probably the hardest Larkin said. “That’s the school I like the most.

He’s visited Miami and South Florida. Duke, Alabama, UCLA, USC, Harvard, Marquette, Wake Forest, Florida State and Florida remain in touch with him.

Playing very well for Florida Assault was Shane Larkin. Back in the state of his birth, Larkin had it working. The 5-foot-10 point guard was an absolute problem off of high ball screens either beating his man to the rim where he showed an ability to finish, or simply stepping back off the screen and making shots. Also Larkin showed an ability to finish in the mid-range using great body control. Beyond that he showed a much greater desire to defend.

I had kinda written him off. Guess we're still in the mix. :D

Shane we like you too....c'mon to VCU and join the amazing things Shaka has going on....VCU is going to be really really good for some time to come

wow! Another 3-star recruit that likes VCU. I'm excited about the prospect of seeing Barry Larkin VCU home games. I was a big fan of his growing up.

Our staff is unbelievable. Dave Telep and the likes must be amazed too.

This is excellent. We are simply recruiting at a level above everyone else right now. Let's hope it translates to the court as we know all too well with the hyped recruiting classes at Mason how meaningless rankings can be.

Apparently his dad is Barry Larkin

Seems like Shaka is recruiting alot of guys who play football

If you read up on him though it seems that he is really interested in playing at the highest level school possible. Though we are his favorite now, if a good major conference school offers him I'm pretty sure he'll jump at the offer. That said, if the offer doesn't come, he would be absolutely dynamite at VCU. 4-star high school recruits don't usually come by the CAA level.

Barry was a great baseball player. Maybe that helps as Barry will have the ability to speak to longevity.

As to 4 star kids coming to the CAA your are correct. However, pre CAA VCU landed quite a few four star guys. However, I think most kids look school first and conference second.

Capel, and Grant got us back on the map turning the ship around and building a winning attitude and program. They got us Nick George (who was the first in a long time to be invited to NBA pre draft camps (other than PIT), and play in the NBA rookie Summer league), Eric, and Larry who give us a great deal of clout. If Larry goes first round and I expect he will that is a significant statement for VCU not just the present coaching staff.

Shaka comes in with enthusiasm, and even more connections and it has paid dividends. My guess is this progression will continue to build as long as Shaka, and the team get a few NCAA bids, and wins. If we are lucky and have another NBA guy in the three years we most likely will get a four star kid or two.

Larkin's brother, Stephen Larkin, also played in the majors (and with the Reds). Larkin's other brother Byron Larkin, was a second-team All-American basketball player at Xavier University, and is currently the color commentator on Xavier basketball radio broadcasts. Larkin's eldest brother, Mike, was a captain of the University of Notre Dame's football team in 1985.

He and his wife, Lisa, have two daughters, Brielle (18) and Cymber (12), and a son, Shane (16). Shane plays on the same football team as Trey Griffey, the son of Ken Griffey Jr., another Cincinnati Moeller Graduate, and the grandson of Ken Griffey Sr. He also plays basketball for his school team. He was ranked 13 in the nation at one time. Larkin's daughters play lacrosse.

That's why I wrote him off a while ago as a legit possibility for us. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that quote from him. Whether it means anything in the long run remains to be seen.

But considering his height, the high majors may not jump on him as quickly as maybe he would like. So who knows. McCarter seemed to be waiting on NC State (I think) and decided to pull the trigger with us instead. Of course I've never seen him play so I don't know how good he really is, but I have a hard time believing at his height he's a top priority for a lot of the high major schools listed.

Reco had an offer in hand from NC State. He was waiting on Wake Forest, but the offer never came. I still think Larkin is a long-shot, but if we get him, that would be unreal.

Looks just like his dad.

I get people wanting to play in the Big East, etc (although who knows what those conferences are gonna look like in the next couple of years), but I think getting some of these players outside of the BCS equals some hot teams. Look at Butler—Duke won the national championship this year, but people are gonna remember that Butler team and Gordon Hayward forever. Imagine had either of those final shots gone in... Anyone remember who won the national championship the year Stephen Curry went off in the tournament? (Don't look it up).

I'm just saying, one day a non-BCS school is gonna win it...and soon. And it's gonna be because recruits are realizing they don't have to play in the BCS to go all the way.

I agree with the point that a non-BCS is going to win it, but it also assumes that all the kids care about winning a title and not just getting a shot at the nba. so while the fans will remember hayward and curry for their ncaa tourney performances the players might remember them because he got them picked in the 1st round of the draft.

As for the curry question, he went off two years in a row in the tournament, but I believe Kansas beat Memphis the year he got to the Elite 8

I also agree that a non-BCS school will win the tourney at some point. However, I think it will be due to the fact that the non-BCS team will be an experienced team playing against a BCS group that while perhaps more talent as far as NBA value, is young an immature (SEE Kentucky).

I think the one and done , and two and done, kids have really helped the Mid Majors and that this will ultimately lead to a Non-BCS squads ultimate success.

Finally, I hope we are that non-BCS team.
