Shavin' with Shaka- Breast Cancer Fundraiser

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart is teaming up with local sports talk radio personality, Wes McElroy of Sports Radio 910 AM, in support of October being Breast Cancer Awareness.

Smart and McElroy are joining the fight against the deadly disease by challenging Rams fans and fans of Sports Radio 910 to raise $2,000 by October 17th.

Half of the money raised will go to VCU Massey Cancer Center and the other half will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

If the donations reach the $2,000, Smart will join McElroy at Mulligan’s in the Fan and give McElroy a shaved head, much like Smart’s “do”.

Donations can be made at Mulligan’s in the Fan on October 3rd, 10th and 17th, along with October 12th at the Pour House and Tuesday, October 6th at the Siegel Center for the Wizards-Grizzlies exhibition.

Great to see Shaka so actively involved with the community. We didn't see much publicized community engagement from Coach Grant like this.

I think we will see Coach Smart doing a lot more for the community. He seems like a heck of a fellow--a lot more down to earth. I am getting to like him more as each day goes by.

Couldn't agree more. It's great to have a coach that is not only dedicated to building a successful program, but also dedicated to giving back to Richmond.
