RICHMOND, Va. – Six Virginia Commonwealth University student-athletes were recognized for their success in the classroom and in competition as the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association announced its 2008-09 VaSID Academic All-State Team.
Women’s soccer standouts Amanda Adams (Salem, Va.) and Megan Flanagan (Franktown, Colo.), women’s basketball’s Radoslava Bachvarova (Varna, Bulgaria), baseball hurler Phillip Deane (Richmond, Va.), Emil Lindgren (Stocksund, Sweden) of men’s tennis and volleyball’s Laryssa Goncalves (Curitiba, Brazil) were VCU’s representatives.
Each Virginia institution, including NCAA Division I, II, and III, NAIA, and independents, had the opportunity to submit athletes to be honored. Student-athletes were required to post a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher to become eligible for the award
