NEW YORK, N.Y. – What a difference a year makes.

A year ago former Virginia Commonwealth University baseball standout Scott Sizemore was spending most of his days in the training room after suffering a broken bone in his wrist that ended his 2008 season prematurely.

Just 390 days later, Sizemore has jumped all the way up the minor league ladder to Triple-A Toledo and was recently named as the Detroit Tigers representative to the Futures Game during the Major League All-Star break in St. Louis, Mo.

“It’s truly an honor to have this opportunity to represent the Tigers on such a big stage,” Sizemore commented. “It’s been a whirlwind over the past year since the wrist injury, but a lot of hard work, most of which was done there at VCU during the off-season, has paid off.”

It will be the 11th annual XM All-Star Futures Game, which pits the best Minor League prospects from the United State against the best from the rest of the World. This year the event will be held at Busch Stadium on All-Star Sunday, July 12 at 2 p.m. EST.

MLB.com will provide complete coverage before, during and after the game, which can be seen live on ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD and followed live on Gameday.

Sizemore is actually the second Ram ever to take part in the game as Brandon Inge, current Tiger third baseman, represented the U.S. during the 2000 Futures Game.

The Chesapeake, Va., native is currently hitting .296 with 36 RBIs,21 doubles, 10 home runs and eight stolen bases over 71 games with both the Erie Seawolves (Double-A) and his current team, the Toledo Mud Hens.
