SMART NAMED AS FINALIST FOR BEN JOBE NATIONAL COACH OF YEAR

************************

Ok Admin Note:

It's gonna be really easy to let this thread get derailed with all the "I told you so" and "These judges are blind" comments.

So, don't.

Thanks.

I thought this part was interesting.

As of today, this elite group of fifteen coaches has fashioned an average record of 21-9 this season.

Almost exactly where we stand at this point.

Congrats to Coach Smart

and an extended Yaaaaaaaaaaa-hooooo for VCU Basketball

Nice to see Todd Bozeman on the list...I had forgotten all about him. Wasn't he at a PAC-10 school, like a million years ago. I remember something about paying a recruit or some such thing. Good news for Morgan State, I guess.

Next year he'll be a Naismith National Coach of the Year finalist too.

Like the Vegas Villa references, it all adds to VCU BB national awareness.

I'm very happy for you Shaka!

[In many ways this first year may have been one of your most challenging...when you look back 5 years from now, and yes you will be here and have gone to multiple NCAA's. This year will reflect significant transition in program, coaching staff learning curve in CAA, and fan expectation calibration...next year expectations will be high, but the senior leadership with a full year under your coaching will make for much calmer waters. You're good, and you didn't want to come to VCU and find low expectations. You will thrive here!].

he really must suck.....can him

Congrats to Shaka on the nomination, however, this is not "National Coach of the Year" but instead "Minority Coach of the Year" ... I'd be curious as to exactly how many minority coaches there are of the 347 programs in DI basketball (obviously, at least 15).

...so what are you saying?

Can't find any concrete lists, maybe I'll go look up every coach and figure it out tonight.
