Not sure how many of you pick up the Sporting News' annual college hoops preview magazine...but they have VCU as the top team in the conference.

...Gold is back in town.

Eh...

They also don't have Denzel Bowles on the CAA first-team.

J-Rod is CAA preseason POY according to that publication, I hope that it's true, but I can see at least 2 people in front of him for that, Denzel Bowles and the reigning POY in Charles Jenkins. I would have to say that Chaisson Allen is definitely in the mix as well.

ODU is also pretty much the favorite. They return as much as any team in the league not named George Mason and are the defending champs. Until someone knocks em off they gotta be #1 right now.

I've pretty much ruled them out... does that count?

But ODU lost a multiple CAA POY. Granted, it was the summer time award, but still, it has to count for something.

Yes valid points but ODU sucks and I hate them and thinking much less saying they should be the favorite in anything except target practice makes me ill.

Of all the publications providing predictions to date, the Sporting News is the most credible. IMHO. ODU lost their core player in Gerald Lee. Like it or not Lee was a more critical piece in ODU's success than Larry Sanders was to VCU's. Lee led his team into the NCAA and got a win. Last year we lost E Maynor and returned pretty much everyone else. We fell to fifth in the league. We had to adjust without our go to guy.

I believe ODU will have the same issues this season. They really don't have a go to guy. A ton of talented upper level CAA players but not go to stud.

VCU should be the favorite. See the rookies, and the returners. Did ODU have anyone rated higher than Jamie or Veal? If our players play up to potential we should get a win in the big tournament. IMHO.

To the above post, dmitri batten was rated higher than any of vcus 5 recruits before he committed to odu and espn changed his grade.

Secondly, yes, we will miss Gerald more than you miss sanders but to say we have no "go to" players is just wrong. Finney was extremely clutch last year (exhibit a is the caa semifinal), not to mention we expect bazemore to make a leap and frank the tank to increase his production as the number 1 option.

I don't think you can put vcu on top with all the question marks they have either.

Finally, any publication that makes no mention of Denzel Bowles anywhere on the first team is absolutle worthless. He will average 20 and 10 this year and get plenty of NBA scouts attention.
