Can someone explain exactly Jeff Capel III, and Anthony Grant did to this program to garner so much hate?
Last I looked, Capel got us back to the basically owned ODU during his tenure, NCAA played Wake Strong, recruited, VCU greats such as Jesse Pella Rosa, BA Walker, Nick George, Jamal Shuler and the incomparable Eric Maynor.
A. Grant won the league title three out of three years, Tourney 2 out of 3 years, brought home a win against Duke in the tourney we still talk about and will continue to do so until Shaka actually produces on all that talent we seem to think he has but have yet to realize. And left us in good shape with Larry, Joey, Brad, Brandon, and Ed.
Is it that they left us? Did we really expect a young guy like Capel to homestead at VCU? How about Grant an guy who left a championship team to come here and coach? Didn't anyone think that he maybe looking to move on to the big time at some point.
Oh and as to the kid who changed his mind, so be it he was a teenager and he committed to A. Grant not VCU he never put on the uniform, didn't take one damned credit, get one meal, or use or facilities one bit. He, looks like he opened the door for Theus who is a pretty good player. Finally, we were so high on him that maybe Shaka and crew, as well as the team don't beg Joey to reconsider. Heck this guy leaving was actually a bright spot. Again Thanks A. Grant you helped us again indirectly.
Didn't they both get a god awful amount of money to leave. Doesn't their leaving give us some kind of positive exposure?
Was their behavior so far out of the norm that some of you act like a woman scorned?
I mean really if a coach can do better for himself, his family, and career I say good for him. All I expect is achievement while here at VCU that's it. I wont be angry and applaud their failure. That my friend is bush league and we always post on how we are a classy bunch do we not?
If Shaka leaves before we make it to the NCAA tourney you have reason to hate. Because for all his supposed talent he wouldn't have really given us anything and would have taken a great deal.
As to A. Grant, and J. Capel III they did their jobs admirably achieved made VCU basketball relevant again and in great deal of cases are responsible for the new found interest in VCU men's basketball and listservs like this one.
I wish em both well as I do Tubby, Kevin Eastman, and any other former member of the Ram coaching staff.
