New Coach...new look. I wonder how much he'll tinker with the starting lineup. I was often confused about starting KP and Larry together, and imagine that could be one major change at the start of the upcoming season. I know we're still recruiting...but who ya got?

(edit PS* - I know this is OT but the Niners just stole Crabtree with the 10th pick in the draft... 2009 49ers..return to glory)

Current(Before we get GJ :D )
Theus
Gavin
Burgess
KP(Skeen when eligible)
Sanders

Don't see much else happening unless T.J. started ahead of Bradford. I don't see Bradford starting ahead of Gavin at the 2 so I have him playing at the 3 spot who can bang down low a little bit and shoot the outside shot.

1) Theus (Vilarino if we get him)
2) Gavin, Rozzell, Nixon
3) Burgess, Gwynn
4) KP with Skeen starting after the first semester
5) SANDERS, Saintil

I think we are going to be scary good once Skeen is eligible.

Gimme:

Theus
Gavin
Burgess
Skeen (Would love to see Saintil start over KP at the beginning, doubt it will happen though)
Sanders

I Agree with DB, Grant had his favs and also think about how deep our bench will be. Yea baby

Saintil has the chance to a very nice side-kick to Larry in the low post with his impressive footwork and quickness off of his pivot foot. He needs to get his mind into the game at the defensive end, but if he does, he will be a very nice complement to Sanders on the low block. He's a physical specimen with a nice offensive game around the basket and is a quick and explosive leaper, once he jumps he's at the net seemingly before you realized he left his feet. He could be a key to helping keep frontcourt defenses honest when they try to double Larry inside.

saintil runs the floor well for a big man. That's one of Larry's strongpoints, so man big men (like that stiff at ODU) can't run with him in the open court.

Both Saintil and Sanders run the floor very well. Lee isn't actually half bad, but obviously he's a half-court offensive player. He's not especially athletic, so that style of play won't suit him. He is good at what he does though. You could just as easily say that Sanders can't hold Lee's jockstrap when it comes to back to the basket post play, and you would be right. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, but Lee proved to be a better overall big man last year. If you take off your black and gold glasses, you'll see that to be true. Next year? Who knows. This offseason will go a long way to determining that. Lee typically goes back to Finland for the summer while Sanders is in Richmond working on his game and strength. I'm hearing that Lee will play for Finland's national team this summer, but I doubt he will be working on his game as strenuously as Sanders will be. That is one advantage of staying at school instead of going home. Lee does not do well when Sanders is on the floor, it's just a bad matchup for him. That said, he's shown more against common opponents than Sanders has on the offensive end, so while Sanders may have won the head-to-head, Lee is considered the better overall big at this point by most people who are not VCU fans. That's the truth.

even Blake Griffin the POY said Larry was tough to play against, those arms are make it hard to get shots off.

Yup defensively, he's a nightmare to go up against for almost anyone. Alas, there is also an offensive part of the game, which Larry still needs to work on. While there is no big man in the CAA who came close to having the defensive impact that Sanders had, there are certainly several who had more offensive impact. Being tough to play against doesn't make you the best big man in the league. It makes you the best defensive big, but not overall. That goes to Lee right now.

Here's what I've got....

1- Theus & Rozzell
2- Gavin
3- Burgess
4- Skeen (Saintil at the start)
5- Sanders

I like that lineup a lot. Rozzell will have to work really hard on his decision-making and ball-handling if he's going to be playing the point.

I would just add this comment: That's my starting 5. But the more important issue is this- our depth will be stupendous. Not only in terms of quality players, in numbers, but if you look at the numbers more closely, we are stacked at every spot. Never happened before this way, in VCU history. Sure- we've had better starting 5, but never with this kind of quality, experienced depth behind them. In more detail:

1- Theus / Rozzell / 3rd Guy (GJ??)
2- Gavin / Rozzell / Theus
3- Burgess / Nixon / Gwynn
4- Skeen / Saintil / Gwynn / Ndongo / KP
5- The Landlord / KP / Saintil

Sheesh- We really are loaded. For the better part of the past few years, we've been talking a lot about our depth, but with a lot of guys plugged into the equation, that were very young, inexperienced, and unproven, though athletic and somewhat heralded coming in. This group is a different story all together. I believe we have got solid, quality depth at every postion, that is proven. Except for one.

GJ- do you hear that? Except for 1!!!! Still, I think we're going to befine with what we've got. But getting a really big time point guard would just complete the picture. If not, then Brandon & Darius will do it.
