Starting 5???

For all of their other talents/contributions, Burgess and Gwynn are not (except in emergencies) capable CAA-level players at the PG and SG positions, respectively. Opposing coaches would drool all over themselves imaging the full-court pressure possibilities against us If ever they're together in the backcourt without Theus or Rozzell at any point this season.

How about going big?
1-BB
2-TJ
3-FN
4-KP
5-LS

Theus and TJ are the same height, why not switch them and move BB to the 2G and then you may have something for a big team.

IMO KP won't start next year but will get minutes. I think he might be too slow for the Smart system.

you wonder if the Jimmy Johnson philosophy in football could in any way apply here. I hate Jimmy Johnson as a lifelong redskins fan but one thing is for sure: At Miami he was a revolutionary when it came to how football was played. His philosophy: I'll get 11 guys who are more athletic and faster than you're 11 guys and no matter how big you're 11 guys are, I'll still beat you.

If we have 5 guys who are longer, faster and more athletic than the other team's 5 guys, we'll win most of our games. Our job is to wreak havoc, we'll still have to make good decisions with the basketball, but we'll win a lot of games and nobody is coming into the Stu and winning without a lot of help.

The CAA fails year in and year out to match VCU's athleticism. You see guys in the 2nd half on the other team huffing and puffing because they can't keep up. Not just the CAA, I remember seeing KA and Gonzalvez last year looking like they were going to collapse in the richmond game.

A lot is being made of our apparent hole at PG, but I say press and press and press until they drop, when you're causing a lot of turnovers a PG plays a different role than he would in a half court game.
