This season has been a weird one for me so far. For the first time since becoming a Ram fan, I am not living in Richmond. For the first time in three years, I don't have season tickets in the C section. For the first time since I started to follow this program, I am not able to attend the games, nor do I even know a breathing soul in my new city that could care at all about what a mid-major program from Richmond, Virginia is accomplishing on the court.

That all being said, this has also provided me with a fresh perspective on VCU basketball. I have been forced to watch virtually every game via an online stream, or listen to internet radio broadcasts, and I have been forced to scour the box scores for indications of exactly what happened in the game. I have watched every game entirely sober, since VCU basketball is now an almost intellectual hobby for me instead of a social one. And, because of all of that, I have an important prediction:

We will win the next 15 games in a row.

We have now lost only two games. WMU, I believe, should be considered an anomaly and an early season learning opportunity. Our players learned a lot from that game, and I believe our new head coach has learned even more. W&M is turning out to be a pretty good team, and there is nothing embarrassing about losing by 1 point, on the road, early in the season to a conference opponent, in a noon game, against a team that just beat a perpetual ACC powerhouse.

We currently have 7 different players all on the verge of averaging double digits per game – in fact, 7 of them already average at least 8.1 pts per game – and our star player, Larry Sanders, is becoming more and more consistent with every game, even if he hasn’t completely blown the roof off the building in a game yet.

Joey is proving to be learning how to balance his assists and shot attempts and currently sits near the top of our conference in both total assists as well as steals.

Bradford may have had his worst game of his collegiate career against W&M, but he has proven in every game up to that point that he very well might be our second leading scorer this season, and is doing so with ruthless efficiency and shot selection.

Ed Nixon is a complete revelation, and many of us are very glad that he is finally living up to the potential we have seen in him for a long time. He might end up being our MVP for the entire season if he continues to play and progress at the rate he has been.

Jay will continue to knock the rust off, Brandon is playing with the intensity we have all come to expect of him, TJ is the leader all of us knew he could be this season, and while none of our freshman have contributed remarkably to a game yet, they have all shown flashes of the players they very well could be in just a few months.

Skeen and Saintil are unknowns, but there are two important things to be said: 1. Skeen was an ACC caliber starter: he’ll do well for us. 2. Saintil always showed traces of potential greatness in the limited minutes Grant allowed him to play, and Smart is a coach that reiterates over and over again that he gives the players freedom. Have you seen what that has done for Ed so far this season? Grant never had faith in Ed, and it showed in his play. Terrance is ready to get back into the game, and coach has complete faith in letting him play, so we could see a remarkably improved player there as well.

The only real disappointment of the season so far has been KP, but we all know that he possesses incredibly hustle and drive, and I’m certain he’ll continue to contribute.

Long story short, look at our schedule, and look at how our players are progressing in their game. It is very likely in my opinion that we are about to embark on a 15 game winning streak. No game scares me until we play GMU in their house towards the end of the season, once their guys have grown and matured a lot.

VCU will be 20-2 by then. Book it.

balance his assists and shots? He has taken more 3's than anyone on the team...I want a little more balance especially when I can think of 5 guys I'd rather shoot the 3.

and while I love the prediction I think you are slightly off your rocker  If this does happen, you sir deserve all the credit.

And by the way Joey is even bolder than you...

You know 5 guys on this team you would rather shoot the 3 than last season's CAA leader in 3pt percentage? Please, name them.

Additionally, I just said he is learning to balance his shots -- not that he has been doing it perfectly all season. Progression is the name of the game.

yes joey did lead the CAA last year...but he isn't this year (I believe Larry is shooting a better percentage). 5 in order for you

1. Bradford Burgess
2. Ed Nixon
3. B Roz
4. Jay Gavin (hopefully he will be moving up this list...)
5. Skeen (at least from what is everyone is saying)

and valid point he is learning. I'm still bitter over ucla and wmu but hopefully he CONTINUES to improve more.

I'm going to go ahead and assume you are a very young fan. Probably 19 and just enjoying your second year of VCU basketball? You are actually going to submit 7 games of data as relevant when compared to 2 entire seasons of data?

Joey can fudgeing shoot the three. And you are an absolute idiot if you actually want those 5 taking the shot before him.

Most know I don't like Joey the PG at all but the kid can shoot. He is off now who knows why can't hit free throws or three pointers.

Dude can shoot though

thanks for the insult...what a wonderful ram fan you are. First of all I am 22 years old and enjoying my 5 year of vcu basketball. If this is some how is a bad thing by all means continue insulting. But let me work down my list again...

1. Big Shot Brad, he has that name for a reason. Last year (I am giving you a larger statistical sample of data) Mr. Burgess shot 43% from behind the 3 point line (that was higher than Joey if you were wondering). He also is tall, meaning that he does not need to be wide open to hit those 3's.

2. Honestly I kinda have ed nixon and B roz tied here. Both last season especially nixon didn't show me alot, but this year both are really good from outside. And honestly I just have more faith in them than Joey.

3. Gavin has showed bits of brilliance and I think he is going to be great for vcu but I will admit he still needs some time.

4. Skeen well honestly I don't like big men taking threes (a la Larry) because I want them near the hop rebounding, but everyone is saying this guy is legit. I haven't seen him play but I am hoping he is what everyone else is saying.

And in terms of Joey...I love his heart, I love his hustle, and I love his emotion. But this man makes me so nervous at times. When he is wide open...and makes the three its pretty, but when he misses alot of the time it is an air ball. This results in our players being completely out of position for the rebound, thus expounding upon our rebounding problem this year. I do think Joey would win a 3 point shooting contest, but this isn't a 3 point contest, this is a basketball game. When he has tall guards guarding him he struggles. He has shot well in the past when an all world guard mr eric maynor was distracting everyone. Maybe he needs some time like gavin...but he keeps shooting and not that many are going in. That's a fact.

lol...ok wrong choice of words I really like the kid but you gotta admit at times doesn't he just make you a little bit nervous? You know some games he comes out and hits 6-7 form the 3 point line but then the next he is 1-8. Sometimes you aren't sure which Joey you are gonna get. But back to the point, I'm not holding a grudge the guy just want him to play better at times.

Joey can shoot....but he doesn't hit running 3 pointers...or for the life of me I don't know why he's shooting 25 ft 3's. Last year, Eric kicked out to him. This year, he has to create and he's taking many an off balanced, running shot, in a hurry. When he can set his feet and square up it's a high percentage. But that doesn't happen much now. So yes he can shoot the three and yes his percentages are down this year and his shots are looking ugly at that.

No need to take it personal. We are all on the same team.

QTF - He had Eric to absorb the D leaving him time to eat and sleep before he shot the ball. He doesn't need to score like he did in previous years. We have a very well balanced attacking team.

Who doesn't love the Hammer, but I'm guessing Skeen/Saintil might eat up some of his minutes. Larry gets an extra few minutes break each half as well. With these guys on the floor we have the potential to have 2 big bodies on the floor at any given time. Frontcourt depth. Rebounding edge finally going to start tipping our way and its going to help win us games.

I'm OK with JR taking 3's but he needs to run the offense, try and set up other scorers first, and excercise better shot selection for himself. I think we do better when he distributes instead of hoisting threes to try and lead the team in scoring. If he's got an open look with his feet set, squared to the basket...let fly.
